SG's Ultimate Draft Challenge

Walcott's a better finisher, crosser is arguable. SWP wasn't better than him when he was on form. Which was, you know, like two months in his career.

Nah, he had a few good months at City, and then for a while there at Chelsea too, although it wasn't long. SWP was a really good player, you know. He was never a good finisher, but he had all the qualities of a typical winger, and had more quality than Walcott's flash-in-the-pan performances. SWP was a great crosser, Walcott isn't even good.

I don't know. I definitely see why he would be good striker, but as a winger he is more able to use his pace. Iirc Walcott's a year older than me, so at 21 he has lots of time to discover his game beyond his pace. For the time being, the speed he brings to the table is much more needed that a good cross.

Walcott could never play for a mid-table team, but for a team like Arsenal (or England I suppose) he is devastating. We're not assembling mid-table teams here, or at least the rest of us aren't, so a player like Walcott who can take an excellent team and add a goal every game either by his own foot or through a diagonal run dragging a defender out of place, is much more valuable than someone like Agbonlahor who just can't do that. Agbonlahor won't make a top team better, but Walcott can and does.

Now... with that being said, I think Theo is still best used as a second half sub against top teams (obviously Barca is the best example) because his pace is devastating against tired players and he can change the style of play slightly if the original tactic isn't creating goals. Against lesser quality teams, or tactically undisciplined teams, Walcott is almost guaranteed a goal or two at this point.

That's just plain false. First thing, Walcott doesn't do that at all, he's had one great game, scoring a hat-trick, and a decent start to the season, he's nowhere near as effective as you're making him up to be. Not to mention that you're hugely underrating Gabby. Have you seen him play?

How about some stats? Last season Gabby scored 16 goals (13 league), Theo has scored 20 in his entire career (including Soton). Gabby's not even 2 years older than him, and hasn't been touted as such a bright talent, despite being a better player from the moment he burst onto the scene (they both appeared in the Prem during the 2006-07 season). Last season, Theo made 30 appearances (23 in the league), scoring 4 goals and getting 3 assists (yeah, in 2 matches he equalled last season's tally, which is a good sign, but it could also mean that he's going to fizzle out soon as well). Gabby made 40 appearances, scoring 16 goals (dunno how many assists). A fairer comparison would be to just look at this league apps. In 33, he scored 13 and made 5 assists. Oh, and those goals are pretty evenly distributed between headers and both feet.

Statisically, he's better than Walcott. He has been throughout their careers. Now you can go to your Zonal Marking columns and say his contribution isn't purely measurable in goals, and that's true, but that's true of Gabby too. Seriously, watch him play, he wanders all across the third half, dragging defenders around, or bursting past them with his speed, or just sticking to one zone to avoid clusters. He's simply better than Walcott, whose best moments have been 2 hattricks (one of them against Blackpool, and one goal against Barcelona (coming off the bench after a long game). He's overrated.

He doesn't make Arsenal better, other than being an impact player every once in a while. He wouldn't make it a an average team because, he'd be ****. He manages at Arsenal because he gets to play to his strengths, and he offers too little to be able to do that at an average team. Gabby has done well at an 'average' team (they're above average, actually, and have beaten Arsenal and other top teams several times). Considering that he has more to offer than just speed, and is a better player, I'd say if he doesn't improve a top team, he'd certainly do more than Theo.

I completely disagree with you and am still baffled why you would pick a bunch of mid table fodder for an All Star team.

I really don't care because it's clear to me that your knowledge of these players is limited. I've picked good players who I know extremely well and who fit into my vision.

I'd much rather fail doing that than succeed with players I don't know well who I've slapped together because of their reputation.

That's great, but you still cannot be referring to my team as everyone is an International star, plays for a top club, or plays in the Bundesliga.

down here we call that "doing a bradbury"

I'm out for the weekend (might check in a few times), and my DC Jack on my laptop picked tonight to stop working.

I think Jovetic and Gabby were both steals going this late to be honest. Good picks, ****ers.

Left one with Az, but I had a couple minutes here to check in. And of course took the guy #2 on my list. Whatever.

Any mod care to take over updating the first post in the other thread?

I don't have to attack you to defend myself.

Yeah, Dan sent me a list, but as he said, he picked the 2nd guy which is ******* confusing now. I'll try and wait as long possible for him to get in there and do it himself, but yeah...

I was actually considering Ade twice, when I picked Zamora and when I picked Gabby. Good player, although he didn't shine muchy last year and he's set for a similar campaign this year, so it's a risky pick.

EDIT: Haha! Skip's not gonna get a single Mexicano.

Alright, I'll gladly snap both parts of Bayern's double-winning-Champions-League-final-reaching centerback duo, then. (H)

Legio Septima fifteenth round pick:

El Flaco Javier Pastore

JP: "Hey guys, check it out:

- I have plastic balls. :D

- They kicked the sh!t out of my balls. :D

- Everyone hates my balls." :D

I was gonna pick Pastore, but i opted by Aimar, more experienced and not as finished for football as some big maiority thinks.

Rafael Da Silva? I'm considering getting another RB too, so I've been looking at a few players, and honestly, Da Silva was never even on the shortlist.

I considered him because he did have some quality standout games last season...
and he manages to keeo himself on the subs bench elsewise..
id use him more at times when id need a goal or two and more support from either ful back place if johnson jansen gets tired...
