Not to intervene this argument you're having, but as a Utd fan i remember seeing Pogba just once for the first team (brought on for Scholes on 81th minute, if my memory serves me right), and while we were winning the guy showed so much willingness and potential during those 8 minutes plus Fergie time that i always wondered why on earth wasn't he given much more playing time after that. At the time seemed just like the spark that our midfield was missing, a bit raw but nonetheless. Willing to take on players all that...

I am considering this jersey:

What are you even talking about? Barca aren't one team, they were actually, if anything, an exception. Every team has defensive players because every team knows that having players who are good in possession isn't enough. I really don't know how you're not getting this or how you can think your original statement is defensible.

Because we won 9 TITLES with a starting lineup that DID NOT have a defensive midfielder.

How many times do I have to repeat it?

In spite of, not because of. Correlation, not causation. Not to mention that Carrick, Hargreaves, Fletcher all count as DMs.

"They [Ferguson & Staff] sent me away to train by myself for a week, I was disrespected and not even treated by a footballer and was shut out from the club"

On Ferguson in particular he said: "I don't feel I received any respect at all"

"All he told me is you will play, but his actions deemed otherwise"

"When I saw Scholes come back part of me was really happy because he is a legend but another part of me knew that spelled the end for me at United, the manager would have to stick by his decision"

"Paul Scholes had retired, Darren Fletcher was injured. There was no one left to play in midfield. And I was training and I was beginning to get better bit by bit and the coach never stopped telling me, 'You're this far'.
"And I didn't understand. This far away from what? Playing? From having some playing time? From getting on the field? Or what?
"And there was Rafael in midfield and I was disgusted. I was disgusted and I didn't get on either"

Just a few snippets

Is this what you are referring to?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...2/Paul-Pogba-Alex-Ferguson-told-to-Italy.html

I see no quote that would point to Pogba being "ignored for months, not even saying a word and then pulling a near 40 year old out of retirement". This article tells me that the breakdown happened after Scholes came back and Pogba was only sent away after he already said that he was leaving. Which is fully justified.

So, please find the correct quote or I will disregard this statement as untrue.

None of you understood that Arnau got it right the first time and every attempt to copy it has just ruined the original rather than piggy-backed on its success.

You consider Carrick a DM?

Anybody that watched United play regularly would easily identify that the team would go from having no control of the midfield to having over half the possession when Scholes would come on as a sub. So in this case correlation is causation.

Yes, DM refers to a position on the field. Again, Scholes helping with possession doesn't mean he made the team better than a different player would have. The point was how you grossly overstated his ability and impact and suggested that a team doesn't need defensive players with someone like Scholes on the field.

In my thinking a DM is a player that is least advanced in midfield. In United's case this was Scholes, not Carrick.

Unless we have a different understanding of where a defensive midfielder plays, I don't see a need for the world class team to have one in every game when they have a player like Scholes.

Having different options available is always good, but its not the absolute must to win an important game.

Nothing grossly overstated, just because you don't rate him much doesn't mean he was dime a dozen.

No, because your implication was that you didn't need a player like Pogba having someone like Scholes. The suggestion was that because Scholes is SOOOO good on the ball, you did not need someone better, with different qualities to play in his stead or alongside him.

It was a discussion of whether playing Scholes or Pogba that season. And given Scholes' ability he would start any day (if fit). I never said that there is no point in having a DM in your squad when you have Scholes and none of my statements implied it. I have no way of telling if you failed to read the context or not, so maybe next time clarify before resorting to name-calling.

Yeah, I don't hink we'll reach an agreement on this. If you think a retired Scholes would have started every time over Pogba that's on you.
