In regards to all those quotes about Scholes, which one of them was from last season or even the season before that? No one argues Scholes' talent, but the fact that he was brought out of retirement instead of giving Pogba a chance. Also, my critique was for Help's stupid, stupid statement that suggested that with Scholes (a player who, evidently, never loses a ball and can find anyone on the field always, no matter how shitty his teammates are) you don't need defensive players (I assume since you don't need to defend since you always have the ball, as ManU's possession stats over the years have shown). This wasn't about Scholes, it was about Help? being a demented fanboy.

100% pass accuracy from 50 yards don't you know he can hit a tree perfectly in the distance

Would also like to point out that the Pogba stuff isn't hindsight bias as I was saying it at the time.

hahahahahahahahaha

wow hahahahahha, I literally cannot stop laughing at how much you and Mus are clutching at straws just to try to argue a point that has HARD proof against it.

I didn't say he keeps possession 100% of the time and finds anyone 100% of the time. Like, absolutely NO ONE said it

How in the world does this quote, say that he keeps possession and finds anyone 100% of the time?

"Who needs a DM when you have a player who can keep the ball and put it anywhere he likes."

5 EPL titles, 3 League Cups, 1 CL... 0 DMs (H)

Oh and ARIAGA...this:

"The point of the argument is not to debate how good a player Scholes once was in the 90s and early 2000s. We're going on about how Ferguson essentially sacrificed a legit world class talent in Pogba for an extra season of Paul Scholes, harming United more in the long run and causing them to attempt to cover up their mistake by buying trash like Fellaini. This isn't even like the Piqué situation, this is worse! "

Absolutely agree with, Pogba is world class talent and Ferguson made a huge mistake. I don't recall any of the United fans, myself including, ever arguing that we should've let Pogba go.

This was the issue, which was already stated:

"Instead of working hard, learning the trade and fighting for his place he decided to bail to Italy. I'm not saying it was a bad move for him, it turned out to be a perfect decision for his career, but that is looking at things in hindsight. At that moment when he was getting signed by Juventus, he was a very talented but highly self-hyped player that didn't demonstrate much yet on the pitch. "

He didn't like that he didn't get enough games at the age of 18? Sounds to me straight out of the Yaya Toure book.

It's not clutching at straws you doofus, you're implying that with Scholes you don't need a defensive player and we're making fun of you because it is a retarded notion because it fails to grasp the concept of football. Even Barca use a DM and their entire team is possession oriented, unlike ManU.

And you also had DM's during that period, bought new DM's and tried to buy others, so obviously Fergie disagrees with you too

No one argued you should get rid of Pogba, but all of you retards were more than happy to bring sh*t Scholes out of retirement when it was clear it would mean the end of Pogba at United.

what do you think of his punditry? unlike in his playing days, I find him quite entertaining now ...

And I'm telling you that your thinking is too narrow-minded. Just because one successful team does it, doesn't mean that its the absolutely stone-wall must have rule, ESPECIALLY since United have been successful without a DM in the starting lineup.

But keep using personal character attacks if you think that will get you anywhere lol.

I strongly disagree. Pogba showed some decent promise in the 2nd half of the 2011-2012 season when we brought back Scholes. At that time he just turned 19 and it was clear that next season he would have been given the chance to break into the team and cement his place. Our midfield was in shambles and we need to do something to stop City. Pogba at the time wasn't ready to play a starting role but Scholes was. If anything Pogba should have used Scholes' experience to become an even better player and then take over in a year's time.

Instead he just talked some sh*t about the coach and how he wasn't given the opportunities and peaced to Italy because he wasn't up to challenging Scholes or Carrick for the starting spot. A 19 year old Ronaldo would have stayed and proven everyone that he should be starting.

Again (just incase), please do not confuse my belief of Pogba's personality into my belief of his true footballing abilities.

I can't think of anything more disrespectful than a coach ignoring you for months not even saying a word and then pulling a near 40 year old out of retirement and play him out of position (you said he played as a holding mid) it's disgusting

Source?

And Paul Scholes' primary and only position was holding mid towards the end of his career.

"They [Ferguson & Staff] sent me away to train by myself for a week, I was disrespected and not even treated by a footballer and was shut out from the club"

On Ferguson in particular he said: "I don't feel I received any respect at all"

"All he told me is you will play, but his actions deemed otherwise"

"When I saw Scholes come back part of me was really happy because he is a legend but another part of me knew that spelled the end for me at United, the manager would have to stick by his decision"

"Paul Scholes had retired, Darren Fletcher was injured. There was no one left to play in midfield. And I was training and I was beginning to get better bit by bit and the coach never stopped telling me, 'You're this far'.
"And I didn't understand. This far away from what? Playing? From having some playing time? From getting on the field? Or what?
"And there was Rafael in midfield and I was disgusted. I was disgusted and I didn't get on either"

Just a few snippets

Funnily enough Roy "Mad Dog" Keane and Gary "Lap Dog" Neville are now two of the very best pundits working on British TV

What are you even talking about? Barca aren't one team, they were actually, if anything, an exception. Every team has defensive players because every team knows that having players who are good in possession isn't enough. I really don't know how you're not getting this or how you can think your original statement is defensible.

Based on what United got from Scholes that season, that Rafael was used in midfield, and how well Pogba performed immediately at Juventus later that same calender year, it's fair to say he was probably United's best option at the time. Ridiculous to say he should have been happy sitting on the bench when he could play at such a high level.

It's clear that the manager either did not respect him, did not rate him, or was trying to keep him off the field and unable to show his talents at the highest level in order to deflate his value for the ongoing contact negotiations. All the scenarios are bad enough to leave.
