RC that post is ridiculous. There should NEVER be a need to carry a firearm to protect yourself. This is where the USA has it wrong.

We allow people to have guns in Australia, if they hunt, or do it for sport. As soon as people are carrying them for self defence, you're suggesting shooting people is an answer. It's never the answer, and more guns in the hands of people for that reason, means more people will die at the hands of firearms.

The ease of getting a semi-automatic today is too easy. We need better gun restriction laws, if we don't do away with the guns themselves. The only guns that should be allowed to be bought for a citizen are pistols. Semis should be reserved for the military only.

If we decide to still allow guns, then the restrictions should be much, much higher. Similar laws have been in place before:

self defense meant in their household in case of burglary, etc.

i never said shooting people is the answer, but if you break into my home at 3 in the morning i am not going to heat us up a pot of tea and attempt to talk it out on my couch.

my point was laws besides a life for a life is the only way, if they end up killing themselves so be it, whether he takes his own or he is executed, etc better the lunatic is gone than alive in a prison.

and places around where i grew up people kill over everything, a gun is needed for self defense.

opinions of whether or not we think they are needed does not matter, try telling those who live in those places a gun is not needed, not everyone lives in a wonderful neighborhood with wonderful neighbors.

Like, if somebody wanted to ban cigarettes, cause kids keep getting them, you'd say they get them illegally. Yes. But it's easy to get something illegally if somebody can get it legally first.

If guns were more controlled, somebody getting an illegal gun would be more visible. If people weren't allowed to have guns, when somebody had one, you'd know it was illegal. Now there are people who might have tons of guns that people know about, they just think they're bought legally.

There is no reason for one to have a gun. Hunting, fine. Not a fan, but you can keep that. You don't need an assault rifle for that though.

Even if it is easy for anyone to get a gun illegally, it's harder, concretely, and mentally.

I've heard that stats say that guns bough legally, for self-defense, are more likely to be used against the owner and their family than getting shot by a random guy with a gun.

gun control can only be effective if nobody had a gun but there are too many out there, even if you increased the standards, etc the amount of weapons already available that are recycled from person to person is probably close to the millions.

until all weapons are off the streets and everything is started from 0 there is nothing you can do to control it.
