People can stop asking the question now as the 3 new leagues in FIFA 08 were officially confirmed at the launch of the Australian A-league today...

http://au.fourfourtwo.com/news/59393,aleague-will-be-in-fifa-08.aspx

It’s official. Every A-League team will appear in EA Sports’ new FIFA 08 game.
au.fourfourtwo.com can today end speculation and confirm the new FIFA 08 game will indeed feature all eight A-League teams in the series' new version.

The A-League is one of three new leagues confirmed for FIFA 08 and will debut alongside the Irish Eircom League and the Czech Gambrinus League, taking the game's total number of leagues to 30.

This means you’ll be able to take your favourite team and pit them against any side in the world including world giants such as Barcelona, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.

“This is the first time that the Hyundai A-League will feature in an official EA Sports videogame," said FFA CEO Ben Buckley.

"More than 20 million people globally will be directly exposed to A-League clubs and players during the next 12 months through the FIFA 08 product."

Socceroo and Melbourne Victory striker Archie Thompson will be the face of FIFA O8 in Australia, featuring heavily in the promotional campaign for the game.

“This is another example of the level of corporate interest in the Hyundai A-League and football in Australia at present and we look forward to working with EA in the future,” added Buckley.

Thompson said he was ecstatic about being named the FIFA 08 ambassador for Australia and New Zealand.

“I know that plenty of the boys at Melbourne Victory - and the Qantas Socceroos, when we are in camp - enjoy playing video games," he said.

"It’s fantastic that we can now play as our favourite A-League club either in a league or against other international clubs.

“As I’m a big kid at heart, it’s great to feature in a game that I enjoy playing myself."

EA Sports have undertaken extensive research to accurately capture the skills/abilities and traits of A-League players.

FIFA 08 will be available for purchase from September 27, 2007 to coincide with the worldwide release of the game, but no A-League player will feature on the cover.

So since these leagues are going to be in the game, does that mean that they will be 'officially licensed' or whatever, allowing for the real kits and not just generic kits?

omfg they add the gayest leagues.

add the Greek league the most important league. we Greeks invented the sport we deserve to have our league in the game. no one gives a **** about the czech league or especially the irish league

add leagues people care about like the Greek league.

Argentina, Russia, Ukraine, Greek leagues would all have been MUCH better than any of the trio of new one's EA picked.

Hell, I'd rather see Scottish second division than Irish 1st division.

Why is Arge always ignored? We get Boca & River, where's the rest?

What?! No Albany league!!! :s***: Damn, I am so mad, I am about to rape my sister!!! And she's not even hot!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately people from EA should have adding new leagues wth basic kits & prehistoric flags; same song each year I guess. It the merit to be some original ones. I aggree with Royce; Russia-Ukraine-Greece 're more realistic to join the game I think; land were Football is a...religion.

i dont get it, it says tard thompson will be on the cover but no a league players are on the cover?!
should have known a league would be in soon as buckley is also head of ea in this region

Buckley was head of EA several years ago...

Those who want other leagues need to realise something - EA would put other leagues in if they were popular enough for their inclusion to be warranted, and the associations that run the leagues were prepared to allow them in.

The A-league had an average attendance of 14,000 last year - and one club over 30,000.

Compare this to the Ukraine league, which averages 9,000 - Greek league (averages 6k), Russian league (4k) while the Argentine league has never been in FIFA because the association that runs it obviously doesn't want to allow it and grant the license.

Okay, the Czech and Irish leagues don't pull big crowds, but EA Sports isn't stupid and would know that FIFA games sell well in these countries (and is always one of the best selling games of the year in Australia) - and prehaps the relevant associations were keen to see their leagues into FIFA.

The point is, don't blame EA when it isn't there fault.

btw. I believe Archie Thompson will be the spokesperson for the game (and attend things like the event EA are going to do in Sydney soon where fans will get to test out FIFA 08 against A-league players) however it doesn't look like he will be on the cover.

Also the romanian league would have been nice to play. (In UEFA 5-Year-classment they're better than Germany!!!:crazyboy:)

I think ea won't include the argentinian league in the game because the league isn't popular in europe.

G'Day All,

On Tuesday The 4th of September in Sydney, we will be officially launching the next generation of football games...FIFA 08 - and you could be there.

You'll have the chance to get out on the pitch with players from the A-League in a hands on football experience with drills, skills and a penalty shoot out. Then we will move to the main course, hands on with FIFA 08. You will have the chance to take FIFA 08 through its paces a month before anyone else in the country, how cool is that!

For your chance to attend this money can't buy experience, plead your case. Why do you want to be one of the first people in the world to play FIFA 08 Next Gen?

This opportunity is very limited and is only being offered to EA members.

Requirements for entry:

- Live in Sydney or able to get to the venue (close to the city) on the arvo of Sep 4.

- Are a hardcore FIFA fan.

- Be willing to participate in the football mini training camp.

The most convincing candidates will be selected to attend this unique football experience.

Good Luck!

I think ea won't include the argentinian league in the game because the league isn't popular in europe.

And the Brazilian league is popular in Europe? Mexican & MLS too?

I just don't buy that logic.

The Arge league is a huge feeder league for major Euro teams, I want as many possible players in the DB as possible, so when ManU signs Carlos Eduardo in 2 years he can be transferred accordingly :)

More leagues are better no matter what, hell, I'd take the USL if they wanted to add it....I just really want Arge & Ukraine (Mrs Royce is a Spanish Ukranian mix, what can I say).....

What about Argentina? I mean if the Orlando Pirates can get into FIFA 07 why not have the Argentinian and Greek leauges? Does anyone honestly play with the Orlando Pirates other than the players?

Does Argentinos Juniors mean Boca Juniors? If so that rediculous. Don't know a lot about Argentine leagues, is that a real team?

Sorry bout double post.
