breaking news: according to the portuguese tv station SIC, Co Adriaanse resigns as manager of Porto. the team part to England where will play friendlies against Man City and Portsmouth without the entire dutch staff. Rui Barros will be the caretaker coach in England.

Wow, I must say I'm surprised. Never thought Adriaanse would do something so extreme for a player.. Well even though he might be a little right, afterall, with MaCarthy and Almeida going out Porto theoretically would be able to buy a good striker.

I doubt it is only because of the striker, that must have benn what got it started. Co Adriaanse had already been quite aggressive in the last interviews everytime the president came to the conversation.

Santos did well at AEK.......he did play a very defensive scheme but got the team into this position and in 2001 he took them from 6th to tied for 2nd and brought them to Europe.

but I don't think it had to do only with the striker issue...I reckon that:
PdC was like "stfu already with the public whinning" for some time now
Co insisted on keep doing it in order to put pressure on the president
PdC remained unshakable
Co didn't like it and started to lose his nerve
PdC didn't care
Co resigned
