I thought this was an interesting experiment, so I figured I would share. As some of you may know, ChatGPT has just released a new version of its image generator tool, and after playing around with it for a while, I wondered whether I could use it to make FIFA 16 kits. I used the following prompt: 'could you please make a FIFA 16 format 2d football kit texture in the colours claret and blue, using fictitious information such as club badge and sponsor logos?'.
It took an extremely long time to come up with an answer for me (around half an hour), before giving me the following image. For a first attempt, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting at all, with only some tweaking to the short sleeves needed in order to get it in the correct format for the game. Certain details, such as the collar, neck warmer and captain's armband are a little bit wobbly, although I doubt the problems are particularly noticeable in game as they are only slightly proportionately incorrect (I've just imported it into CM so far and looked at it on there, I haven't had a chance to open the game). Here is the original ChatGPT version, alongside the version which I edited the sleeves of. It is better than many of my first attempts at kit making were, so I'll at least give it that lol.
What are your thoughts on this? Could it be a way to save time making mods in the future, or will the technology never be accurate enough? Let me know. I personally think I will always prefer to make them myself, as I can use my discretion and add whatever details I see fit, although this could become an extremely valid alternative if it continues to improve.
