Academy Awards 2007!!!

my apologies then, mind you over here Brick got solid (if not spectacular) results.

Hadn't a clue you could only have one nomination, I guess i can't disagree with Pan's Labyrinth being in. Gutting.

I did a little more research and the movie got mostly positive reviews in the States too but the one thing people most talked about was Ryan Johnson's vision and amazing idea for a movie.

the screenplay was even awarded from a few groups so it could've had a chance at an Original Screenplay nod if the movie had been seen which it didnt. it never got a wide release :(

so who has the most noms?

edit: nevermind i just found it, dreamgirls (N)

Does anybody have a complete list?

Paul Greengrass doesnt have a chance. Best Director is between Scorsese and Clint right now, though Inarritu could get in if Babel gets stronger, though Im thinking the only one capable of getting more buzz right now is Clint cause Letters opened a few weeks ago.
I really dont know man, Clint has two best director oscars already, and we all know how well Marty performs on oscar night, plus factor in that the academy love people who "boldly tackle relevant global issues", and I think at 10-1 this one's really worth a flutter.

and Little Miss Sunshine is in the race Im telling you. specially if it wins Best Ensemble at the SAG. add that to the producer's guild and its almost the favorite. LMS is the most loved movie of the 5.
I'd really fancy an outside bet on LMS, but at odds of 9-4 it's just not worth it :p

Hakeem;2265728 said:
on the screenplays, LMS is the favorite for Original right now (its been all year), and The Departed & Children of Men for Adapted. Children of Men won he Scripter a few weeks ago which is a pretty great prognosticator (Y)
They may give it to LMS if they dont give it anything else, but I still think Pan's Labyrinth will take it on the day. Children of Men doesnt really deserve it for Screenplay, though it would for cinematography.

Where the **** is Brick?

Infact, how the **** is Innocent Voices not nominated for best foreign language film?

I swear, as I learn more about the film industry I learn more about how wank the Oscars are.
Hmmm, Brick was really good and very original, but it really wasnt the sort of movie you'd expect to see get oscar nominated, except perhaps for Sceenplay.

Also, Innocent Voices didnt get the universal critical acclaim that Pan's Labyrinth did (I actually saw some very poor reviews), though it's better than many of the others nominated. Shame about the one per country rule.

The award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role will be an interesting one. Calumn, i have a feeling will smith might get it.

Good to see mexican Movie makers having sucess,

We have a lot of potential in the movie industry, 2 bad nobody cares :(

BTW Pan's Labyrinth wasnt a big success here, i guess we dont support ouw people

Edit: Innocent Voices, great movie i liked more than Pan's Labyrinth

no i know about that i meant like a list that shows how many nominations each movie got.

like:

Dreamgirls: 8
Movie 2: 6
Movie 3: 6
etc...

Big deal, only 5 (leading/supporting actor/actress and best film), maybe 6 (directing) actually matter. And I only think Dream Girls got one of those.

Dreamgirls - 8
Babel - 7
Pan's Labyrinth - 6
The Queen - 6
Blood Diamond - 5
The Departed - 5

Well Pan's Labyrinth isnt really a Mexican movie, it's set in Spain, about the Spanish civil war and features an almost entirely Spanish cast. Even Del Toro is one of the "least mexican" of the many great mexican directors out there.

A great year for latinos/hispanics (whatever the proper term is for people who speak spanish) though. In fact, there are three different unprecedented quanitites of minority groups - blacks (Whitaker, Murphy, Hounsou, Hudson), hispanics (Cruz, Pan's Lab, Iñárritu, Barraza etc) and Brits (Mirren, Winslet, Dench, Greengrass, O'Toole, Cohen).

No Jack Nicholson? The rat imitation scene was enough alone... He shouldn't win but many other nominees did a far more inferior performance.

Eddie Murphy just won the SAG for best supporting, he's winning the Oscar now (Y)

SAG AWARDS

Best Ensemble: Little Miss Sunshine

Best Actress: Helen Mirren, The Queen

Best Actor: Forest Whitaker, The Last King of Scotland

Best Supporting Actress: Jennifer Hudson, Dreamgirls*

Best Supporting Actor: Eddie Murphy, Dreamgirls*

***Hudson and Murphy are safe bets for the Oscars. if an actor wins the Globe and the SAG, then he wins the Oscar.

and Im seriously thinking that Little Miss Sunshine will win Best Picture now

and hopefully whitaker wins the oscar. he truly deserves it, though you never know will is still in with a chance.
