I know that many of you won't be concerned with this piece of news. But this is my team and i'm sooooo happy that i want to tell the whole world about it.

Zamalek crowned champions

Zamalek of Egypt won the African Champions League crown for a record fifth time on Friday after beating Raja Casablanca 1-0 in Cairo.
The goal was enough to take the tie after the first leg of the final in Morocco two weeks ago ended goalless.

The Egyptians started as favourites but they needed a lucky deflection to secure the win.

Tamer Abdel Hamid's strike deep into stoppage time in the first half was only parried by Raja's keeper Mustapha Chadili.
The drive from the edge of the box ballooned up off the keeper's hands and into the top left corner of the goal.

There could have been many more goals but Chadili and his Zamalek counterpart were outstanding.

The game was marred by regular stoppages as players got involved in countless off-the-ball incidents and went down writhing in agony at the gentlest of challenges.

The referee handed out seven yellow cards and could have booked many more players, but did his best to keep the game flowing.

In the last few minutes the match descended into near-farce as Raja's assistant coach was red-carded for charging onto the pitch and the referee had to contend with players wrestling with each other.

The gamesmanship will have done little to promote the image of African football around the world.

But that will not be worrying Zamalek as they celebrate a record fifth title win, collect the one million dollars top prize and guarantee themselves a place in next year's tournament.

Hassan's record

The win also marks an historic achievement for Zamaleks' veteran twins Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan, who take the champions medal 15 years after first winning one with Al Ahly.

Dinamo Harare didn't make it to this year's African champions league. Highlanders represented Zimbabwe in this year's competition and they got knocked out in the round of 32 by Mozambique's Costa Do Sol losing 2-1 on aggregate.

The team which reached the group stage (quarter finals) of the African champions league this year were:

Group A

1- Raja Casablanca (Morocco) Q
2- TP Mazembe (DR Congo) Q
3- Jeanne D`Arc (Senegal)
4- Ahly (Egypt)

Group B

1- Zamalek (Egypt) Q
2- Asec (Ivory Coast) Q
3- EST (Tunisia)
4- Costa Do Sol (Mozambique)

The first 2 teams in each group qualified to the semi-finals. Zamalek has beaten TP Mazembe after a 1-1 draw in DR Congo and a 2-0 win in Cairo. Raja have managed to over turn a 2-0 loss in thier first leg against Asec in Ivory Coast and succeeded in beating the Ivoarians 4-0 in Morocco to reach the final only to lose to us 1-0 on aggregate.

I watched the game & the level of play was quite poor. In addition to that players kept on "filming" & arguing with the ref.

But congratulations to Zamalek on their historic win ! I was hoping for Raja to win but the best team won so once again congratulations ! :)

There was even a one page article on this match in the Finnish papers and there was something about Hassan in the article. It also mentioned that he's played many matches for Egypt's NT.

I know that the level of play was poor and that there was alot of "diving" in the game, but really, don't take this game as a measure for the level of african and arabian football. The games between Egyptian and other north african sides like Tunisia, Morocco, and Algeria are always tough and tense due to the great rivalry between the two sides. In Egypt we like to play good football but the north african teams always used that point to beat us as they always try to do tricks to waste the time then from only one counter attack they score a winner and they end the game. This year, Zamalek used this kind of tricks against them and managed to beat two of the strongest north african sides EST of Tunisia and Raja of Morocco. But we played very good games against the teams from the countries of west africa like the games against Asec of Ivory Coast and TP Mazembe of DR Congo. Anyway final games are always tough and the level of football in them never lives up to expectations.

Thanks for your congratulations.

I was surprised because the Egyptian & Moroccan teams for example play some fantastic football at NT level & I expected more from the African Champions League club team final. What I noticed was that Raja & Zamalek are by far the best teams. I watched some of the other matches as well & it was very clear.

However, I found the match to be quite entertaining.
