3 seconds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! W T Hell????????? How long did it take you to do it in 3 seconds. And how did you do it? Just by pressing on everybox without stopping? Sorry, but for me to understand that is almost like to be a professional goalie and score on 20 goalkicks through the whole field in a row in the CL final:o .

Beginner mode in 6 seconds (H)

Took me 2 hours solid playing it to get that :$

I also complete Intermediate and Expert in some rediculously sad time.

I never understood this game... I just don't get how you are supposed to predict where the mines are :(

Anyone care to explain? The Help file never did it for me, I'm like the only person who has no clue how to play ot :kader:

Some squares will have mines, others numbers, the rest blank.

The Idea is to uncover all squares, and only leave those with mines under them untouched.

You can anticipate where the mines are by the numbers on some of the squares.

If there is a 1 on a square then there is 1 mine touching one of the 8 squares next to that, and if there is a 3 then there are 3 mines out of those 8.

You use the process of elimination to work out which squares have mines.

You start by clicking one square. It will then display a number, that number is the number of mines that are adjacent to that square. For example, if the square says 8, that means it's completely surrounded by mines (you will never see this, unless you fix loads of mines!!). The strategy to start is to get a nice opening first. Openings are caused by clicking on squares which has a value of 0 (i.e. no mines adjacent to it). This will open up mines adjacent to it. And if the 0 square is next to another 0 square, it will cause a chain effect, opening up quite a few squares. Once you have got a decent opening, you can then start. (There's no point figuring out mines when you have only one square cleared and it has a 1 on it, so just keep on clicking until you got yourself an opening...or already died, if so just start a new game)

With the opening, you can eliminate squares which are mines or which are not mines. There are a few techniques to do this. I will discuss some of them below:

(X denotes squares not yet discovered)
(F denotes a flag)
(Note 0 will just be shown as an empty square)

1. The Corner-1 combination

0000
0010
XX00

This is an easy one to figure out, since the 1 is only touching one square, so that must be a mine.

You can mark that square using the RIGHT mouse button, to put a flag on it, so that you know it is a mine.

i.e.

0000
0010
XF00

2. Accumulating flags

Once you have marked some mines, you can figure out more mines, by simply finding squares which is adjacent to the required number of mines. e.g.

FFFXX
2221X

All three X can now be cleared (using left mouse click), as the square with value 1 has already got one mine adjacent to it.

3. 3 in the middle of an edge

000000
223220
XXXXXX

This is another one of my most used techniques

You can see that the 3 is only adjacent to 3 unknown squares, so all 3 of them must be mines.

There are many many many more techniques that I use, but guessing is also sometimes essential. For example, on expert, you can always get to the last two squares and there is simply NO WAY to figure out which one is a mine, and which is not. That means you might as well throw a coin....

Hope this helps, anyway, do remember to stop playing after a while, because it can cause damage to your hand by holding the mouse for too long.....;)
