I thought I'd make a thread where everyone can tell us about their best sporting achievements, or their favourite memories from their playing days. Funny stories, personal bests, team records - anything goes.

Lakers coming back from about a 15 point deficit against the Portland "Jail-Blazers" in the 4th quarter of the Conference Finals about 3 years ago. Awesome game. :rockman: :rockman: (H)

There are much more that I can't think of right now though.

I was thinking more along the lines of personal achievements by forum members, not professional sport(unless someone in here has played professionally;))

Oh, my bad. :crazyboy:

Scoring a hat trick when I was younger in a footy match. Sadly, I was made the keeper during that same game and for the rest of the season. :f***:Pissed me off. I had an assist as the keeper against the first place team later in the season to get a big upset win. I was proud of myself. (H)

Well i suppose my greatest sporting achievement, is when i played soccer for a local club, and we were sitting bottom of the table on 0-1-5 and the team we were playing were 1st on 6-0-0.

Not to mention at their ground. For memory they scored just after half time which made it 1-0, we scored 2 goals in the last 7 or 8 minutes to win 2-1. Handing Band Club their first defeat of the year.

It triggered a run of winning 8 of our next 9 games including that one.

well my favourite memory was my indoor soccer cup run two seasons back. We are still to this day in C grade and probably in about 20th position out of all the league teams ... anyways i am our keeper and we made it to the cup quarters (the first part of the cup is a league format) so we got into the last 8 .. first game we won 1-0 and i kept a clean sheet and we won .. semi final we played another C grade team that some how got into the semi's as well we drew 1-1 and it went to penalties ... i saved 4 out of five and we won 2-1 in the shoot out .... cup final we played the best team by far in the comp ... i played the best i ever have and it went to golden goal at 0-0 and dave our left footed goal sneak scored an amazing free kick and we won the cup !!

MY favourite aussie footy moment was when i kicked 7 goals playing in the ruck and rotating with our full forward ... we won the premiership when i was 15 lost one game for the entire season

Winning my hockey Grandfinal after being 1-0 down we scored a goal lateish in normal time to make it 1-1. Then it went to golden goal extra time we were still deadlocked then so we have one ones. Which is player vs keeper. I scored mine and we went on to win

somethin like that for me. when I was 17. Playing for a local basketball team and Scoring 45 points in a game (gave the assist for the winning 3pointer) that gave us the local title. (call it championship if you want) (H) Good memories, too bad they're only just memories :(

Probable my most memorable sporting moment was playing centreback in the school team one game. Someone blasted the ball as hard as they could at goal and I threw my head in front of the ball. It knocked me out, gave me concussion and, ironically, memory loss.

LOL yeah. Worst thing is, the ball rebounded of my head into the feet of the oponent striker who scored - we lost the game cos of it.

Going from the last guy making the varsity team to working my way up to a consistent starting position in the same season. We went all the way to our sectional finals and lost 5-4 because of poor coaching putting in the crappy goalie who subsequently gave up 4 goals in the first 20 minutes. Had we won that game we would have been in the State Semi-Finals. It was a good year though, for the only time in my high school soccer career I actually got a coach to look at me as actually being a member of the team. Once they saw that I actually couldn't play and they could have had me a year earlier but I was busy toiling away on the JV bench, they started me and I played even better than I thought I could before. Good season that one. It seemed to make the first 3 years of getting shat on by the program worthwhile.

I have two memories from my high school soccer days.

First:

Since my team was one of the worst in our school league, we didn't have much confidence. Especially when we were to play the first place team on their home field. We had nothing to lose so we played like madmen! We shocked everybody, including ourselves, when we totally dominated the game and beat this team.

Second:

Again, not being a very good team, we were dominated by our opponent during most of the game with them leading 1-0. They had many corner kicks against us and since I was a defender, my job was to cover one of the posts. A good cross came over and my goalie punched the ball out towards the 18 yard line. It went right to our opponents top scorer who blasted the ball back towards our net. Our goalie was out of position and had no chance to make the save. Since I was playing the post, something told me to hold my position on the goal line. The shot went past our goalie and straight to me in which I headed the ball safely away. Due to being on defence most of the time, we had perfected the offside trap. Combined with my heading the ball away, the opposition was stunned that they missed the goal. With some renewed confidence, we ended up winning the game.

Not the best of plays, but my best memories. Peace.

I have had quite a few moments that have been really memorable(by my standards, all in cricket):

1) Taking 5-10 in 4 overs the first time I bowled for my club team. I was 12 and everyone thought that I was really useless - they were right, but I was so slow back then that no one had the patience to wait to play the ball. Big heave-ho across the line and they got bowled:D.

2) Finally making the school 1st XI in my 7th form year and playing in the Gillette Cup. We were smashed by Kings College but I had a good day with the ball, taking 1-21 in my first 7 overs and picking up another wicket at the death. We won't go into details of my horror show in the field though :$. Got my colours for the team, ending the season as opening bowler, mainly because the team's best bowlers had gone to university the year before, but I'll take it.

3) Bowling to Lou Vincent when he walked in to one of our indoor practices at Eden Park last year. Bowling to an international cricketer is pretty cool you know:D.

4) Being called for trials for the Auckland U19 winter training squad(not the U19 team). WAAAAAAAY out of my depth at that level. Didn't have a chance in hell of making that squad, and I didn't. But the call-up and experience was cool:).

5) Hitting a six in senior cricket right in front of former Kiwi Test player Matt Horne. We were playing a game against Cornwall and there was a team playing next to us(i think it was Grafton) that consisted of Matt Horne, Lou Vincent and Andre Adams :o. Horne was fielding at sweeper on the off side for Grafton, but the fields overlapped, so he was basically at VERY short cover for us, and had to watch out every time the bowler bowled. Being a No.11 batsman, it was a pretty good feeling flat-batting the opening bowler for six, especially in front of a former Test player. Got out next ball:$.

I hope I didn't sound like I was blowing my own trumpet, because that wasn't my intention.
