Your first WE8 Impressions

My first impression is not so good, I still prefer we7I. Only played we8 for two hours though, beat Brazil and france 4-0. Let me play the game abit more, then I can comment more.

Same thing here mate. My first matches sucked a$$, didn`t like it at all, but pay attention to the ball especially to long passes and keepers kicks.. WE8 owns WE7IJ.

My first impression is that it is very similar to WE7ij.

The first things that struck me as being good:

The referees are definitely better :). Red cards for trips in midfield seem to have gone. You tend to get a warning or maybe a yellow now. This makes a big difference as you can now slide tackle much more realistically without the unrealistically high riksk of getting sent off that was present in WE7.

General ball physics and deflections seem better. In WE7, there was a habit of every lose ball being scripted to go straight to a cpu guy. Not so in WE8. Much more 50/50 luck.

Your attackers seem to be more willing to make runs into space of their own accord.

The first things that struck me as being bad:

At times, the midfield area is virtually empty. Where did eveyone go? At times, it's like 8 guys at one end, 8 at the other end and 4 guys in acres of space in midfield. Almost the complete opposite to what real football is like.

Dribbling is now too easy. The should have left it as was in WE7ij.

Passing is too accurate. It's too easy to play loads of first time passes which go right to where you want. Too easy to flick a ball with your back turned 270 degrees down the wing, even with very mediocre players.

CPU turbo mode in 2nd half still exists :(.

CPU also still tries to control your guy too much.

Still exactly the same custom cup and league competitions. They have 138 clubs sides now yet you still can have a maximum of only 32 teams in a cup. You cannot play a Champs' League with home and away matches in the group stage. Just exactly the same old tournaments as the past 5 years :(.

My first impression is that it's probably marginally better then WE7ij.

I think they should have used the animation in WE7IJ for the goalkeepers when they drop the ball. In WE7IJ u can see that the goalkeeper will like sort of bend down and drop the ball to the ground. In WE8, the goalkeeper will just drop the ball straight away like in FIFA. It seems so unnatural. However, I really like the new passing system. You're now able to carve out passes like you always wanted.

This probably has to do with your strategy settings. Go to your substitution menu and play with your strategy options. If you have the semi-automatic strategies on, while you play, you'll see things like "AUTO1", "AUTO2" and "AUTO3" on the side of the player's name you are controlling while you are playing a match.

One of the AUTO strategies is that is changes your team to an attacking formation, which is 4-2-4 or something extremely attacking. That is why you find no one in your midfield all of a sudden.

Play around with it and change your own strategies. Repositioning your players to fit the way you play pays dividends. You'll tend to know where each and every player is in every situation.

Actually, the problem lies more with the cpu team.

Let's say I'm attacking, the cpu has 4 defenders and 2 or 3 it's midfielders slowly come back to defend. Then, they win the ball and play the all to common long ball forward. One of their attackers gets the ball and plays it the OM. A couple of the other cpu midfielders make their way up the park but on the radar I can still see the back 4 just sit at the 18 yard line. Far too often they have 4 men sitting right back, 3 men forward and leave huge gaps in midfield.

With regards to the dribbling:

Is anyone using an analogue stick and if so is the dribbling now full analogue (full 360 degrees) or is it still 16 directions?

Also, has the t.v style camera angle been improved? The 'broadcast cam' if FIFA where the camera pans slightly is the one of the very few things that FIFA has over the PES and WE games IMO.

Hi.

I`m always playing with analog stick, much easier and better than playing with d-pad. Now, all I know is I can make any turns I want. However, I don`t think you can turn 360 d. only when doing that Zidane trick.

The cameras have improved alot. For example TV camera is the one used for Champions League matces mostly English teams, Italian Teams etc. Spanish teams always use that long/wide one. The best camera (EURO 2004 style) is Intermediate. Unlike in previous WE/PES versions you get better view, also Zoom is not bad. Now, TV3 is really almost a sideline camera type. When you watch Arsenal at home (highbury) they use that camera. Not bad, but the players seem not life-like when playing them that close and also with this new slowdown issue, most likely you`ll be getting it alot when playing on TV3 camera.

No, I didn't mean can you turn in a circle (360 degrees), I meant can you run in any direction you want with the ball or only 16 directions? Thanks for the camera info though.

Anyways.. do you hear these rumors about PES4 going online for X-BOX, or it`s only PES fans who can`t play WE8 and are just jelaous. You also have to modify your x-box just like you did your PS2 however there is some talk that X-BOX LIVE don`t supports modchips. If it does then I`m once again buyin a pre-mod (x-box). Jumbo if you want some good prices PM me.

Yes, you are right; just read about it. If PES 4 PC or Playstation does not have on-line, I will buy an XBox.

--> JUMBO... How did you connect your LIVE to your broadband? Did you use an ICS-connection?

That means I need a new (ethernet) modem.
Sofar I have this usb-modem: (see this page to read about it:
http://www.speedtouchdsl.com

This one does not have capabilities to connect other things at it.
Do you agree I can't use this?

yeah, that's too old school, bro. USB is absolutely a no-go at this time of age.

an ethernet modem is the only way to go.
