Last night I finally got the "check for updates" feature to work again. It had not for serveral days. It downloaded about 15megs of data into temporary directories in the .castanet folder.
After the update was complete, all the files I had changed, new adboards, new scoreboards, the purge, static and flags .big files changed for nets and flags, were all changed back to the original files with yesterday's date.
If you have modified any files, do not use this feature. I could not tell that any other files that would affect gameplay, etc., were updated.
