Xbox 360 - Player Control - Moving to ball and turning when on the ball

When I played the demo the following issues did not seem to bother me as much; however now in the full game they are driving me to the point of actually not enjoying this game.

The first is moving to receive a pass. What have they done? Anytime I pass the ball my receiving player as to wait until the ball reaches him before he can move. This also means his first touch normally goes back in the direction the ball was coming from, which is rather stupid. Also irritating is the fact opposing players can run around you and intercept the pass before it reaches you as your lead boots won't let you meet the ball. Is there anyway around this?

Secondly is dribbling the ball. I thought this game was supposed to have directional freedom. When on the ball I can only turn 8 ways. To explain like a compass, I can only dribble N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW. Thats 8 points of movement. I thought they were saying this game had 360 degrees of movement. Off the ball yes, on the ball its like moving a damn robot. Does anyone else have this problem?

What could be a great game is frustrating me the more I play it.

Yo Philly :) Great game the other day! Looking fwd to the next one.

Same here, I have exactly the same annoyance + others that I put in the Thread that deals with "complaints"...

Still a game to keep...

btw... PES is good... not great, but good enough :)

Man, sliders are for some reason!!. Let´s see if i can help you.

-Receiving A Pass: There´s 2 sliders on the game for this, the auto-swicth player is the one that you must to use. If you put it down, near to 0, then u can select inmediatly your player manually, once you have selected, if you recieve a pass, go for the ball in the same moment, dont wait until ball comes to you. So, instead of using first touch, pass again back (then the defenders that are trying to steal you the ball go away) pass again and you are free to move, use first touch now. Is like in real football, you cannot expect that you will receive a pass without defenders opossing...then it will be too much arcade. Is logical that if you approch directly to a defender, defender will steal the ball, you are not playing along, use the rest of players, move the ball, look for the spaces, play for that defenders makes mistakes, etc...is just the way.

-Dribling: This section is well explained on the FIFA 07 forum. Anyway, is just to be not so strong with the stick, you must to play sweet with it, dont make strong movements,,,due the result is 8 directions only. So, if you disable cpu assistance, you will see that there´s more than 8 directions to focus your passes, shots, movements, etc....

Hope this helps.

Punk Sk8r, good luck with PES6, with his awesome faces, 8 stadiums and the not-licensed teams ;) (and im a really big pes-fan, but the 360 version is for to kill Konami)

Take care

I love pro evo but it's not realistic, dribbling the ball is an art, it's a little of pro evo but a little of Fifa as well. dribbling the ball is tough but FIFA has it right, it's more about faking your defender have him go go one way and you go the other just like in real life on the pitch, You have to get your marker off balance and out of position then use speed burst to blow right by him and because of the "player momentum" factor, you really have to be gentle on the stick but that is easier said than done because the problem is FIFA needs to tweak the dribbling some more, it's not there yet, it can look awkward and be frustrating much of the time but the times it does work it is an absolute thing of beauty.

Just like Ovny said, you need to practice, you can't play this game like you do Pro evo and far as I have noticed, yes it does move 360

I'm in the same boat as you. With PES6 it seems as though I can pick up the ball in the defensive third and just keep running with it and striking it around 30 yards out scoring wonder goals. It got so easy and repetitive I have stopped playing it(this was on top difficulty, too).

The way I see it is this, FIFA and PES have switched places, FIFA is the new simulation and PES is the new arcade. Both are still good in their own ways, though.

Thanks for your replies; in particular Neovico. I haven't had a chance to play the game for a couple of days, but will try these tactics / options out tonight.

Miki23; that was one hell of a game! I'm shutting up shop next time against you!

You´re welcome mate. The good of this game is that from the beggining is really difficult to adapt to its particular control, and you can think that pes is better on this part, but, as you are playing you notice how you are getting with the controls, and, each time that you play you can do more things than in a beggining, satisfacing you each time, until to achieve a good total control of the game....being difficult to win macthes although you dominate the gameplay.

Be careful with Miki!!! He´s really good playing, he makes a lot of presure and you must to play fast as hell!!!

Take care

Yeah Miki, we must to play again, (i must to arrange a few connection problems tomorrow).....but this shame of time diference is killing me, when here is today there is tomorrow and when there is tomorrow Ovny is sleeping, pffff...hehehehe. Well, i guess that we will meet some cool time for to play.

Ovny and I will meet Saturday at 23:45 (Gmt+1) (after La Liga macth) that means 6 or 7 hours less in Usa and 11 hours more in Australia (i think). So if we meet, Ovny will play at afternoom, me at night and you on morning, hehehe. So, agree in to organize a league or tornament, it can be cool, but i guess that all people will play with Barça, Madrid, Arsenal, Manchester or Chelsea. We should sort the teams for each player, for example, if is a tournament, each week one player plays with a different team, etc. In a league i guess that we have more options to choose our favourite team. It could be a "soccergamming" room, and password "fifa07" for example...

PES6? thats worse for player movement! plus the CPU Cheats and talks the biggest load of crap you could ever think!

On PES6 the players feel stiff and feel as if they are on rails it gets on my nerves. FIFA isnt that bad.

I don't know if the players are on rails, but even though I love to play PES I have never been so big on PES animation like alot of people have been, sorry but I was never that impressed especially with defending, I kept seeing the same animations over and over again, it was just repetitive, great gameplay though

Yeah, they do look like they have something up their arse don't they??? That's fine for a last gen, but next gen is inexusable... especially after Fifa 07 animations...

Anyways, guys, let's make it happen with soccergaming league, we can do international one and club one with more than 1 team of course... and play weekly legs, build some primitive scoreboard to keep track of the results and that;s about it...

I should be free anytime over the weekend, just let me know when you guys want to meet...

And by the way, I don't have live communicator so my appologies, can't chat with you blokes...

PES players off ball looked like they were about to drop a big load, FIFA07 360 players look good, they obviously went b4 game.

Hi Roberthan and welcome here :)

We are waiting for you online, leave your tag on the Xbox 360 Tags post too please. And yes, Miki is really difficult to beat....hehehe, tell me it to me. I played with people from Usa and the connection is good, i guess that there´s no problem for Canada, so, your connection must to be almost of 1mb. If you have a bit of lag in some macthes could be from the other site, not from Canada, there´s a few people that have very bad connections or simply they are downloading on the pc at the same time that they play....
