I can't believe no one started a thread about this movie yet.

Well I saw it last night and I must say that it was good. It really showed you the human perspective of that day's events. Of course propaganda was included and at times it seemed disjointed. The suffering of the people during those days was great and should never be forgotten. However, it shouldn't be used to express propaganda either.

That trailer was more than enough for me. No thanks.

:boohoo: "Who'll follow me?" ..... "I will sarge/captain/whatever." ... "So will I" ... "Me too" :boohoo:

I'm not ready to watch a movie like this yet. You could once see the towers from my job. That day all I saw was smoke and dust.

This film was done for the wrong reasons. As, Pontiakos said, event like this should not be used as propaganda.

love it how someone makes huge profits on the victims of 9/11. i'm not watching this cause of that, and because of the trailer. Did I hear cliché?

Well if that's your opinion you shouldn't be watching any film based on tragic true events, real-life murderers or any war film entierly. There's been a lot worse, I love your naiveness.

I am really looking forward to this film and will see it as soon as I am able, but I do not think it will be at all controversial. I love it when Oliver Stone makes his dark, anti-American conspiracy movies but I'm sure this is not one of them and I have a horrible feeling that it is just going to be a gross work of patriotism. I dont have any problem with there being a 9/11 movie at this time, however, I think it is a great thing that people are already looking to tell the stories of this event. I thought United 93 was fantastic, but it was very specific and I hope this will give a much better overview. It wont exactly tell us anything we dont already know but it should be a good watch nonetheless.

Why is that? For all you know I never watch those kind of movies. I do think that this movie is BS. And especially after I read that very little (don't remember exact, but somewhere around 10%) of it's profit actually went to a good cause.

I'm sorry but there's absolutely nothing about the idea of a 9/11 film which is distasteful. Many great films are based on disasters and terrible events of the worlds history, events which should be remembered through all the artistic mediums. I even dont think there's any argument to say that it's too soon - the first Titanic movie came out less than a year after the actual event.

Of course, it would be possible for the content of this film should be such to make it unacceptable and distasteful, but by all accounts that is not the case here. I do fear that it might be some what corny, trying so hard to be completely unoffensive and uncontroversial that it drifts into blandness, and, as I said earlier, I would much prefer it if it was full of conspiracy theories and partisan digs, because that's what I want from Oliver Stone, but there will most certainly be nothing distasteful and offensive about it. The only question is whether or not it will be a good piece of cinema.

As Callum said a lot of films are based on Tragic events. Do you also love it how they make huge profits off of these events? For example, World War 2 films... WW2 was a lot worse than 9/11 - are you upset that films make huge profits off of these films? And the fact that you don't want to watch the film because of this reason makes it extremely strange and in that sense, should you not care about the victims of other disasters based in films, and not watch these films for the same reason you wont be watching this one?

Either way, I think what you mean to say is that its to soon for it, as the event did happen only 5 years ago or so.

But I will still watch it one day.

Finally got to see this movie, one day later and it would have left the cinemas.

Anyway, I liked it. It wasnt particularly insightful into 9/11, nor was it particularly original, infact, were the events fictional I suspect it would be considered a very poor disaster movie. However, the events werent fictional, and I did therefore find it to be bold and powerful cinema. There may be alot of cliches, as the trailer hinted, but these moments are still quite moving. Nicholas Cage isnt bad, nor is any of the acting, though it seems as if all the cast were afraid to put in a great performance. Of course, the topic being so dicey, there is nothing even remotely controversial or inflamatory, which is a shame because that's what I expect from Stone movies, and as a result, there is nothing to really raise this film to being great, but it is definately good - a very competant portrayal of these events, genuinely moving and well made. If you want something a bit deeper and more intense, go for the superior United 93, but if you just want to see a very good film depiction of 9/11, this is definately worth watching.
