i want a footy game on the xbox . . . which one do i go for? i had fifa 2002 on the pc and loved the passing model . . .i.e hitting it wherever you wanted to on the pitch using analogue passing and variable power - this for me was the most realistic fifa to date. have they retained this feature for fifa world cup? the critics seem to say that iss2 is the more realistic choice, but do they have this free passing model where you can hit it into space?
let me know your views . . .i want to buy one of them tomorrow
cheers,
sted

that passing model is in world cup.

wc and iss2 are very different beasts, so make sure you are getting what you want.

i'm struggling to understand how it can be said that iss2 is more of a simulation. for example, through balls. on the latest fifa titles, you can send another player on a run, and then its up to you to get your direction and power right to hit him with a good through ball. iss2, however, you press the through ball button and let the computer do the rest for you - there's just no scope for you to be creative. please will somebody explain why the iss series is thought of as more realistic?

WC2002 is not realistic because:
1) Goalkeepers can carry the ball in their hands outside the penalty area,
2) Where are the defenders in corners, attackers get free headers most of the time
3) Scoring overhead kicks from the half way line is a joke.

If you think WC2002 is good your knowledge of football is POOR.

i dont agree
1)my goalkeeper didnt carry the ball outside penalty area, NEVER
2)i realy almost doesnt loos goals from headers, i always kick ball from my penalty area with no problems (u only have to defend by your self, not depend on comp becouse it will always fail)
3)i didnt make overhead kick in wc yet (maybe becose i naver try to do it:D)
i like wc very much but it is to short, i cant wait for the cl patch, it would be fun then...

1) Next time when your goalkeeper gets the ball run straight ahead and then kick it. You will see the goalkeeper lets the ball out of his hands outside the penalty area.

2) There are not enough defenders in the penalty area to defend corners.

3) I had scored a few goals from overhead kicks on the half way line. I did not intend to do so. All I did was just pressed a button and the ball went in like a bullet.

I did not say WC2002 was a bad game. I said it was not realistic because it is not how football should be played.

Hi
Cheers for your views - i play for a footy team every saturday, and came 460th out of the 16000 or so who play on www.fantasyleague.com. I don't think 'your knowledge of football is POOR' is entirely justified.
To be honest, the things you've highlighted are pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things - the important thing, i think, is feeling that you can do anything that you can do on a football pitch. Being able to slot a ball through to a guy running down the wing, being able to lob the ball over a defender at the precise angle you want, for a striker to run onto, makes a football game good. Having to make sure each pass is put in the right direction and the power is right . . . surely these things matter?
However, since admittedly i haven't had that long on ISS2, i'm going to try it out properly and then see what i think. I may eat humble pie but i think with fifa, if you stick it on world class level, and don't have any AI assisting you, you get a pretty realistic game. Have you actually played either of the 2002 fifa titles, with the new passing system?
Also, i've been playing it this weekend and haven't had a header scored against me . . . i did notice the goalkeeper thing, but who gives a ****?

I shall try what you suggested and see if it makes a better game. If you have played ISSPE2 or PES you will agree it is a much better game.

By the way sted, "Your knowledge of football is POOR" was only my frustration of the game. It certainly did not mean you. I apologise.

no worries

yep, i'm not going to argue with you about PES, i just hope they bring it out on the xbox someday. i'm going to try out iss2 tonight - i was gutted when i found out it wasn't made by the PES guys, but i'll give it a try.

one other query - are isspe2 on the playstation and pe2 on the playstation2 pretty similar? i've got a playstation somewhere, and suppose i could just get isspe2 until pes2 on the xbox arrives (if it does)

still enjoying fifa, although a bit frustrated about the fact that the computer scores pretty much everytime its gets in your box on world class level
