Well, the coverage starts an hour before the actual game starts on Univision. So it could be that they'll televise it.

The opening ceremony is June 8th. FIFA decided to do like the Olympics and do it a day before the first event.

Hendrik

Team Captain
The opening ceremony will be held at 4.30 pm local time, that's 1,5 hours before the start of the game, for about 20 minutes.

Nah. Actually they planned to have the opening ceremony on June 7th in Berlin. It was supposed to fill the whole evening. Well, half a year ago Fifa simply cancelled the gala because of the costs and to prevent the turf from damage. :|

Then go outside and watch your mates.

This is the biggest sporting event in the world, and only comes around for a month every four years. Surely some sort of introduction is warranted, even if it is just for an hour or so.

Should we skip the trophy presentation at the end as well?

You really have no strong argument there. Are you trying to say that the olympics ceremony is the same as when they give a runner a gold medal and they play the national anthem? Because if you are that's stupid. You can't compare and opening ceremony and a trophy presentation, they are two different things.

Yea, a bunch of people doing some dance isn't the same as the throphy being presented.

Now if they had strippers and blackjack, I might be tempted to watch. Actually, forget the blackjack.

Yeah, but it is nice to have some sort of opening ceremony...So much money invested by a country deserves a grand opening

depends on how the ceremony is performed. If it's closely knit with the game and with the countries it's well worth it. If they bring out the circ du soleil and dance by the fireworks for an hour I hate it.

Nah, opening ceremonies are boring. Do we really need all the players to march around the track while people in lederhosen do the polka? No we don't.

What? No it doesn't, the tournament speaks for itself. Everyone knows how grandious the WC is, a s*itty ceremony won't change that in any way.

Exactly Shifty :jap:

Why does it have to be ****ty? I think it helps to add to the event. I'm sure many people appreciate having a nice opening ceremony...Anyways, since they are having it, there is no need to discuss this then..

You're right about that..... they are two different things

however the argument in having an opening ceremony is that it will provide some kind of formal recognition to the teams that have made it to the group stage in a backround that gives the world a flair of German culture.

So I guess the question still stands......will it be shown in the U.S. ...
