ManU will not be great forever. Someday, they will take a fall. Maybe it will be even worse than what happened with Leeds. I can see ManU overspending and then underperforming. They spend ridiculous amounts of money and they aren't nearly as good as Arsenal or Chelsea. If ManU loses its popularity, which may be happening as we speak since they've lost Beckham and they aren't as good as they used to, the loss of revenue from merchandise around the world might hurt them enough to throw them into deep debt. Then they have to sell their players to help pay, which makes them a worse team, and that makes the debt even worse, so they have to sell their players, and it becomes a cycle, and there you have it, they've become another Fiorentina or Leeds.
Good thinking, too bad you haven't followed United's actions closely.

First you say they spend ridiculous amounts of money. On who? Rio Ferdinand? That was 3 seasons ago. Since him, i don't think United paid more than 12 million pounds for a player, while Arsenal spent 20 million on just 1 player in mid seasons that gave Boro the trophy :p . I thought United are known for not putting a high enough price on players and lose them ex. Robben, Ronaldinho.

Second, we will think weather United are as good as Arsenal and Chelsea this season, when Rio comes back. United were leading their league actually, until the FA.

Third you speak of the loss of Beckham. David especially after the EURO is getting less popular it seems and United released their merchandise sales for the previous season and it still beat Real's sales, while Real had Beckam. And have you heard of Ronaldo?

About Leeds, i totally don't understand them. They say they will keep Milner for sure, because he is the backbone to get them back up to the EPL, now they sell him. And i thought Leeds hired an agent to do the dealings. While we see Viduka go for 4 million, Milner 5, Robinson about the same price. I think that's a bad transfer agent. I understand Leeds are debt ridden club and it would be hard to sell for the right amount, but common you can get a higher price for those players even if you are Leeds. I wouldn't be surprised if the agent is a Man United fan in heart :p .

Take no notice mate. I think John was saying that just to make himself feel better after whats happened to Leeds. Manchester United can only get better and better right now, oh and thats not arrogance, thats fact. :ewan:

Leeds have a pretty good Academy, and because of that I think they'll be back in the Premiership within a few years time.

Hahahaha... That's a great posting, it contains many valid points. Let's be honest, there's only one United! :)

Man united will never be in a position like leeds , the board is very tight with money , if anything we underspend. Also we have a much bigger support , and a big stadium that generates wealth for the club. If leeds have a good youth system then they may get back up , but they cant afford good players so might stuggle in div 1

Many might think that Leeds are operating the wrong way, but that can't be the case. If they had really had other options, but to sell Milner, they would've chosen one of them instead.

Im sure the people, banks&other corporations don't look at the Leeds case in an wise investment any more, they just want their money, quickly, not in "maybe a few years if Leeds gets lucky".

why's everybody acting like Milner us some sort of saviour who could've brought them up again? he's no Maradona:o

OK.

So we sold James Milner.

We've still got Simon Johnson, Aaron Lennon, Matt Kilgallon and Frazer Richardson all of which have been loaned out to different clubs in seasons past and have gained division one experience.

Realistically, only Matt Kilgallon and Frazer Richardson will regulary feature in the upcoming campeign and as history tells us, very capable young defenders dont create as much interest as very capable young strikers. Johnson and Lennon will definitely not be given as much exposure as Milner in the first team.

If Leeds bounce back up to the premier league next season, Lennon and Johnson will be exposed more as we will have the power to knock back offers that we would otherwise relectuntly accepted, like Milners case.

But in answer to the thread question, Leeds are very capable of being a strong team in division one and even though we have lost a countless amount of players, opponents will still be fearful when they see the name 'Leeds United' on there fixture.

i think its not going to be easy to get them back up, they might go down another division i think that is more likely than getting back up next season

meh, selling Elland Road is probably the smartest deal Leeds have done in 2 years. They will sell the ground only if they will be able to lease it for at least 25 years and a lot can happen in 25 years. So this time Leeds are doing the right thing, unless of coarse the new owner will rename Elland Road into a S h i t Road.

I don't understand what all the fuss is about. On the whole, Division 1 is terrible. Most promoted teams get knocked right back down. These are D1's best teams that for the most part get their asses kicked and go play D1 again. I'd be surprised if Leeds doesn't get promoted because even though they are selling everyone, they were/are a big club and big clubs have depth always. Most of the time this depth is not exposed because there's no need for it, but now I think you'll see all the good Leeds players that never got a chance.

What a dumb thread, everyone knows Leeds was doomed when they lost all of their money...

And if Leeds being relegated wasn't some sort of wake-up call... sheesh...:crazyboy:

just another overated young English player coming through the ranks.

He's the youngest player to ever play in the EPL, and he plays with a lot of determination. There is no question he has unlimited potential.

We all knew Leeds was in trouble of course, but they had one bright spot, and that was James Milner. And now he's gone.
