Konami's PlayStation 2 soccer game sells a million copies on its first day of release in Japan.
TOKYO--Konami announced that its latest installment in the World Soccer Winning Eleven series, World Soccer Winning Eleven 8, sold a million copies on the first day of its release in Japan on August 5. Konami aims to sell 1.5 million copies of the PlayStation 2 game in Japan within the year, a first for the series. Since the first release in 1995, the popular soccer series has marked accumulated sales of 16 million worldwide. Today's announcement means that the World Soccer Winning Eleven series has sold a million copies for three installments in a row. The previous game, Winning Eleven 7, took three weeks to hit the same milestone

And I bet a million or more have the game through other means..

If Konami wants to sell more copies in Europe, invest the money on getting more official licenses like the EPL, Bundesliga and Ligue Une along side with La Liga, Serie A and Eriedivisie.

So Konami sold 1 million on the first day but are aiming for a year total of 1.5 million!!!

Personally I'd set my hopes a little higher. That's like me saying, I can run a mile in 4 minutes and I'm hoping with training that I can run 2 miles in 180 minutes!!!

I don't think Konami realize just how many more copies of their series they'd sell if they went for a worldwide release of the series like EA do with FIFA (cough, spit.... vomit!).

Waiting for up to three months to play the game in Europe is pushing people's patience a little far and waiting over 6 months in the USA (where the majority of homes have broadband connections) is like getting the fox to guard the henhouse!

Wise up Konami, you could double or triple your sales if you do things correctly.

I know what you're saying Wolf. Konami should set one worldwide release date. Have it at the same time that PES4 will be released. That way, the transfers will be updated.
I think the official licenses has a lot to do with how well WE8 have sold in Japan. Imagine if they had put Beckham on the front cover. Man, that another 500K units more easily given how much the Japanese worship Beckham.
But Konami should definitely invest in the EPL license if anything else for PES4. Heck get the lower divisions in the UK as well. Imagine how well the game would be sold.

Yeah, exactly. Even though we're like 3,500+ miles away in the USA, EPL licenses would boost the sales of the game here massively. As nice as playing with some Dutch first division team I've never heard of is, I'd still rather have the correct uniforms, names, etc. for Manchester United and Arsenal!!!

Still, this is a good step forward for Konami. At least they've got 3 whole leagues licensed now. Hopefully next year they'll have all of them sorted. The EPL is definitely the big one though.

Well aparently Henry will be the face of PES4. Makes sence as he's a big PES fan. So Thierry, if your reading, leave out of that va-va-voom for Arsenal please :crazyboy:

But with him on the box, if they could get EPL, every single one of my friends would get it. Full Stop

they claim they do have those licenses but didn't indicate what season...

anyway.... I think ppl who buy football game based on the licenses are the very same ppl who buy computers built by Dell or so...

how stupid can u get?... in this forum alone, there are millions of posts about patches for PES3 for real leagues and such...
I'm pretty sure u can do the same thing for PES4...

if u play for the leagues but not the gameplay...y don't u just tape the "real" games and watch it over and over?

save ur money for something else..... that much money could save 3-4 kids in africa for 1 year ... waste money on fifa... :f***: :f***: :f***:
