I live in the US and i cant stand how soccer is put behind everything else and i hate it, im 18 and i think im gonna move to England later on in my life since my major is going to be International Business Management.

I just wish soccer was life here like it is everywhere else

It will be in like 20 years, you have to remember those leagues have been there for like 80 years, and the MLS is starting it's 9th season, so it will take some time, were already able to produce quality players but not a quality team.

Soccer will become popular in the USA. It will never be as popular as the NFL, but I think it can become one of the "mainstream sports." The MLS is getting more popular every year. The league really needs more media attention, and I can guarantee you that Freddy Adu will give the MLS more media attention than it has ever had. Last year, they only showed the All-Star game and MLS Cup Final on ABC, but this year they are showing DC United's first match.

Soccer will be a major sport in the USA, just give it time.

I'm going to have the same major next year when I start college. I just want the chance to travel abroad so that's why I chose it. As for soccer ever becoming popular here, not until the US national team does something major (ie win the World Cup) will the sport receive more attention than it does right now. I just don't see it becoming as big as American football, basketball, and even baseball as of now or in the next 10-20 years. Maybe Freddy Adu can change that.

The only person I can talk to about soccer is a German guy at work. It's annoying than none of my friends have any intrest in such an amazing sport. I frequent a British pub near my house and it's cool there but i'm not about to break into their conversations or anything.

I even sent a PM to ManU2000 to see if he wanted to go to the USA-Holland game here but he couldn't go. Oh well....

It was the US - Denmark game actually but the only way I would go to a US game was if they were to play Mexico. :p Other than that, I would probably never go see them play in person, not even on TV. :D :mrpimp: (H)

No soccer people in my town. Only saw a couple of kids wearin euro team jersey's at my bro's high school. they're on da "soccer team" but they don't know **** about real football. Other than that, nothing. Nobody at work has any interest in the sport, neighboors no, friends no, etc. You don't see people kickin a ball in parks, on school fields, etc. - nothing in this town. When I wear my jersey's to school or mall, peeps look at me like i was a fool or something.

So, to answer your question -- NEVER. Freddy Adu... sorry but one little kid ain't gonna change the way people look at football in this country. He ain't that special either.

I've got no hope.

Yes, it will, but it will probally never be bigger then basketball and football, at least for some time .. however, within probally 10 years soccer will surpass MLB. This will speed up when our domestic game becomes better I believe. I know a lot of young kids who dont like baseball because there is so much waiting, Soccer is a lot more practical.

I would have went to the USA Denmark game. Anyway soccer needs some international star or former star to gain the league some pub. Like Gazza. If Gazza signed for the Earthquakes I would buy season tickets for them today because it is someone I want to see. Also I like the soccer not being as possible because you know when you talk to someone about soccer they will not what they are talking about. The problem with football is now you have a bunch of fags watching it and trying to talk about but they know nothing about the sport so they just prattle on about Mike Vick and who ever won the Super Bowl. You never get that when talking about soccer here in states because everyone knows the game. Like this soccer shop here I go to and talk to owner who can hold a great soccer discussion even though he is a Tottenham Hotspur fan. It make better when you don't have a bunch of people who know nothing of the sport around. I hate walking around in my Jonathan Woodgate Toon jersey and some Carlos*ass says something about Beckham because that is all he knows.

Don't know, it's really hard to tell. If clubs in the MLS keep on folding (i.e. Tampa Bay Mutiny, Miami "Somthing", etc.), the MLS will never grow.

imo there are not enough hardcore soccer no **** that football fans in the usa and the rest of the people are too ignorant to accept some new "boring sport" as they call it :f***: its never gonna happen.

the reasons football is not huge stateside is mainly down to big business......the fat cats in usa sports.....mainly NFL......Basketball and baseball.........have always done all they can to thwart football gaining a foothold ........man you can get a "football" scholarship and even a basketball scholarship but not a soccer scholarship.......that is discrimination from the Government and what it needs is for someone over there to take the Government to court over restricting your human rights and lack of equality regarding this issue...........Millions of Americans love (i hate this word) Soccer........but its not an "American " sport and so the powers that be will not permit it to succeed. They put more effort trying to export American football,Basketball and baseball and they dont understand why the rest of the world say "No thank you".........its because we have FOOTBALL the greatest sport in the world.I hope one day the USA will be into it big time .....its all about conditioning peoples minds that loving football in the USA, is not anti-American

I beleive that it will never be a number one sport and I feel that their are 4 reasons for it

1) Americans have grown up watching rough and fast paced sports and when they see soccer they see wimps and a very boaring game. Usualy they only watch Internationals and I feel international soccer is a lot slower then club

2) The system (players) - The only other country that will give them a competition like champions league is Canada and because I feel players don't go cause they want variety, not just league and play offs

3) Fan base (WAY TO MANY SPORTS)

4) They can't compete on the international stage (people say they are improving but no, i feel the lat world cup was just fluke. For god sakes, Turky and Korea were in the 3rd place game

Anyways, I would kill myself if I saw America be the number one place for soccer. PLAYOFFS lol

Well aren't knockout stages like playoffs? We have far to few teams and few chances to play in international club tourney's. The playoffs provide a bit more excitement in the same way that the knockout stages in the champs league do.

Adding to what Penn said, I find that even though there are fewer people who are into soccer, those that are into it know a lot. Like he said, every idiot has an opinion on the NFL or MLB. Those that know about soccer usually have informed opinions.

Anyway, when you want unbiased, informed, and articulated soccer talk don't the words "soccer gaming forums" spring to your mind? :|

Penn, do you ever listen to World Soccer Weekly? It's on in NY at like 9 Monday nights.
