why won't they score?

I'm not having a bad season.. i'm top of the league, and still in all three cups, but i'm getting frustrated at the lack of scoring ability in my front line.

From this pic you can see all my strikers circled, and none of them have got many goals. There are 30 or so games gone in the season, and only one player (ruud) has over 10 goals!! Reyes has an embarrassing 2 goals, despite playing over 20 games! One of my strikers almost ALWAYS gets a 4 in the first half too, usually Ruud.

I've tried tinkering with my formation, but there aren't any commands to tell the players to give the ball to the strikers, so they tend to just run with the ball till they lose it, or till they get a shot, even though i don't tell them all to run with the ball! I'm playing a standard 4-4-2 formation with forward runs on the wingers, full backs and one central midfielder, and a defensive run on the other central midfielder.

Upshot is that mostly the only time a striker scores is when the other striker sets him up, which is pretty stupid.

Anyone got some good advice for getting goals for your strikers?

bah i'm giving up on this game for a while. it pisses me off way too much. i broke my keyboard due to a 79th minute winner for man city after another inept performance. seems they just decide to play crap for no reason, wow, it is pretty realistic then.

There really needs to be an option to beat the sh*t out of one of your players, cos Lucio really deserves to have his legs broken.

you know what, i'm beginning to really dislike this game. The engine is utter sh*t really. Eidos may actually win a few customers if they manage a game engine that actually does what you tell it to do.

My reason for being annoyed this time? I ask Wes Brown to man mark a West Ham striker Liam Fox, as i notice he's spending a lot of time on the left wing and no ones picking him up. Now if the engine worked at all, Wes Brown would stick to the player like glue the rest of the match making sure he doesn't get any space, but no, instead he spends the rest of the match making sure there are at least 40 yards between him and the player. Seriously, the player got clean through on goal about 20 times in that match and Wes was over in the left wing position for some completely unknown reason!! The same happened if i set a different player to man mark him, suddenly they would forget they were a defender and start appearing up front, in midfield, on the wings, anywhere but in defence.. Add/Remove programs is becoming very tempting at the moment.

hmm really:confused: My defence with Arsenal is really good, i got Sol Campbell and Mexes as back plus Toure for backup:D

So far i have played 30 games and scored 103 goals and conceded 16 goals:o :o Mexes and Sol are awsome, maybe its the tactic you are using:confused: my seems to do well.

I have a great selection of defenders:

Ferdinand, Lucio, Silvestre, Zauri, Bonera, Brown, O Shea, Dawson, McEveley, Kompany

but they defend just like, well, Man Utd...

I still think there's some sort of internet connection thing going on where SI tell your team to play the same as they are playing in real life, and for real life transfers to happen in the game.. it's freaky how it happens..

Problem solved!

Yes i couldn't stay away from CM, damn it for it's addictiveness, and i've discovered the reason for the bugginess meaning that my midfielders scored millions of goals, my strikers scoring none and my defenders refusing to defend!

The reason is that i was playing the game in a 1600x1200 sized window. I did this originally because it make the game engine faster and more fluent, but it also really messes up the AI calculations, meaning that players end up really out of position all the time!

At 1600x1200 i played 3 away games in a row and lost 4-2 to boro, 3-1 to west ham and 1-0 to man city, but in a normal 1024x768 window i won 6-2 against boro, 3-2 against west ham and 5-0 against man city. Reyes who had previously scored 2 goals in the entire season scored 5 in those 3 games, and Ruud scored 6 in the two games i played him in, netting a hat-trick in each!

So things are back to how they should be, and i'm back playing CM. Everything is right with the world once more..
