Why FIFA 20xx will NEVER be perfect (or close to decent)

Hey

don't get me wrong, I love FIFA 2005... but man it could be so much better...

it's a simple formula really; if you notice, everytime there's a new "feature" added to FIFA, there's another one taken away... why is it when we talk about the "good old days" we talk about FIFA 98, and 2002...

Remember indoor soccer? gone...

lol even talking to ur opponent in multiplayer? gone...

choosing how to curve your shot? gone....

using modified teams in multiplayer games? gone...

ETC, ETC, ETC...

WHAT other company makes newer versions of their products by taking out features?

EA Sports of course...

Take this year's "First Touch" system -- yes it's good, but it was grown out of necessity thanks to the fact that in FIFA 2004 the player literally had to take 2 or 3 steps with the ball before he had "possession" of it.. which made it really easy to steal... this was never the case in earlier versions of FIFA...

And this year, people have oooed and awwwed over Bicycle kick goals... but previous years had bicycle kicks... but then it was taken out...

you see, the problem is, if EA kept all the features in the game, then it couldn't make a profit by releasing a new version of FIFA every year...

seriously, aside from fIrst touch, what major improvement was made over FIFA 2004? Not much.. not enough to warrant a new version of the game and charging $50 for it... maybe enough for a patch, that's it.

Think about the next couple of years... in 2 years we can actually see maybe 5 or 6 Soccer titles from EA Sports... FIFA 2006, World Cup 2006, FIFA 2007, Road to the World CUp 2006, Champion's League 2004-2005 (will this be a new franchies on its own?), and FIFA Street....

as long as we're stupid enough to buy each year's pathetic update to the game, EA sports can get away with a halfass effort each year....

... when was the last time the commentators saw a big change? it's the same crappy redundant inaccurate play by play commentary as every other product...

or graphics, no real changes....

chants even seem less than before...

well done, but so many more people have realised this and put up with it. it's called business, and quite frankly, we're fortunate enough to be able to even have a computer and to be able to afford a $50-70 game.

I don't mind most of the prob's you spoke about but the thing for me is the commentary this year it's worse than ever.

I have now turned all the sound in the game down and run windows media player with a list of all my fav tracks and run it with the game it's much more fun

Then why don't they conduct "business" with their most lucrative product (Madden)? Madden always BUILDS on features, never takes them away.

The FIFA approach is one of a development team that lacks a vision, and doesn't really know from year to year what the **** it's doing.

this is very true what you are saying LeagueOfNations
but it will always be that way it the only way a company like EA will ever make money all other gaming companies do the same. iI LOVE FIFA too, but i got used to it man i just hope that FIFA 2006 is more fun to play online.

EXAMPLE: chatting while in game
both players team management is saved so that we don't have to always change then.
less lag etc.. i can go on and on

:rockman: Well said, Mel brennan. This " unfinished business " mentality drives me crazy. I'm here since 2002 and if they had kept all the different features since that time the game would have been a lot better ( continuity is a must ) . At least we have now an alternative on PC ( PES ) which follows a different approach
EA's marketing is the image of our society. What is important is what glitters , authenticity is secondary

i completely agree with leagueofnations.
this is some real bad stuff from ea.
if they don't want the game to be perfect, its alright. but what they should not do is exclude the features which came with previous releases.
also, there r some areas of the game which r crying out loud for changes. especially the world class level- the goals they score r so unrealistic.
the gameplay(even after the first touch) is still not up to the mark.
its real nice but not quite there........
maybe that's how they want it to be.
