Well, as he put Valdes there as the best keeper, we can't take it too seriously.

WTF victor valdés save our asses a lot of times. i hate the critics to his person. trully legend, give us 2 Champions league.

He is able to make remarkable saves, especially in one-on-one situations, but he's just as likely to blunder on an easy shot. He's a good goalkeeper, but calling him the best (even if it's just for this season) is a long shot.

Valdes is far better than given credit for,should have been in the Spanish team long ago and this season the only keeper who might have been better than him is Van der Sar, and only because of the record he had.
Also some of the goals which were blamed on him were purely fantastic (ie Juninho 1st leg) any keeper would have missed that.

Valdes is underrated, but far from the most underrated. Barca have so much posession, and a defense good enough that he only has to make a few saves per game, and they're mostly from a counter, so he sees them coming. The opposing keeper has to constantly be on the look-out of where the goal will be coming from. Valdes has the easiest job of any keeper of his level, and considering that he's a treble-winning keeper in arguably the best team in the world right now, were he to not make those few saves, he'd be a total failure.

Put him in a different team, even with the same defense, and then we'll talk. Valdes suffers from the same thing that Cech did a few years back. Because of the 10 other players in the squad being so good, people think he barely does anything, but I've only seen a handful, actually, just 1, really good match from him. Every other keeper his level have proven themselves 10 times per season.

Valdes has really good reflexes, but other than that he doesn't stand out. Luckily for him, that's all he really needs.

I'll repeat though, he's definitely underrated, but just barely.

Without Palop making saves all season and Kanouté scoring goals out of nowhere, Sevilla would have been in the bottom half of the table. I'm convinced that on any other team they would have monster seasons.
