Ashley Cole is a moron, I loved how he made up that story about how he layed the smack down on Cristiano Ronaldo, then it turned out he didn't even play against him.
For my money, the best defender in 2005 is John Arne Riise. Unlike most defenders we're naming here, he's young so you get many years out of him in career. He's got superb stamina so you can play him in every game. And his midfield and shooting stats are awesome so you can use him to take free kicks, corners, and penalties, freeing up your midfielders and attackers.
