Ha! Whoops. That's what happens when I don't put a word after the number. I forget the sentence is plural.

BTW. I wasn't really suggesting my time at university or casual interest in a subject made me an intellectual - that said, as I've already pointed out we aren't talking about being an intellectual, as Shifty used the adjective, not the noun.

I thought being such a literary wizard you'd understand these were just off-the-cuff examples. I'll remember to be more specific in the future.

No one asked you to justify your life. You were the one that made the allegation, now you're backing away either because you realise you were wrong or can't provide an example (which can be construed for its own significance). I was fine with you not providing reasoning (though it would be nice since the little you've provided is faulty) but why can't you offer an example? Not a paragraph; a sentence. If words aren't your forte, an explanatory image would have sufficed. What you're doing is playground logic: "My dad is stronger than your dad!" "Really? My dad can bench -insert appropriate amount, like, 37 melons-, how much can yours?" "Ugh, I don't have to justify myself, my dad is hella strong".

You've ignored everything I've said and focused on a stupid detail that is beside the point. Are you going to narrow your field of intellectuality ad infinitum? Psychology is a science, social or hard or whatever. You're also surely aware that I am not a 'psychology intellectual' for that experience, as you are not for yours. To be an intellectual means to have mental acumen and capacity for thinking, you cannot split it into sub-fields as you see convenient.

All of this and your entire post was irrelevant because if you're planning on entertaining people with your being a 'science and math intellectual' you might as well keep that hideous mustache to drive people away.

Off the cuff examples? Of what? Also, note that I didn't say I was an intellectual, literary or otherwise.

Adjective definition: characterized by or suggesting a predominance of intellect/possessing or showing intellect or mental capacity, especially to a high degree. Noun: a person of superior intellect/ a person who places a high value on or pursues things of interest to the intellect or the more complex forms and fields of knowledge, as aesthetic or philosophical matters, especially on an abstract and general level. Do you still want to differentiate noun and adjective? To what end? They both mean the same thing, only one refers to a person and the other to that person's quality, which makes him such a person. You're just wasting my time with this.

EDIT: Wait, I didn't even realise. You EXPLICITLY suggested just that, what are you even talking about?

I just meant it in the sense that Az would be much more likely to engage me in a discussion of metaphysics that I would absolutely loathe. That Az is the person that undertakes intellectual pursuits, and I consider that a negative as far as spending time with him.

No, I'm backing away because I can't be bothered getting into another argument with you. I understand you love to prove how big a man you are by arguing on internet forums, but it really doesn't do it for me.

I'm confident saying I'm better at maths, physics, chemistry and computer science than you. IF you disagree, great, I think you're wrong. I'm not going to give you a list of accomplishments because you don't know what they mean, you don't understand their context, and in any case - doing doesn't necessarily have anything to do with intellect.

I hadn't ignored that you've said at all. But I am now. There is no point arguing with you. You're so narrow minded and caught up in your own view that there is no point even showing anything contrary.

That certainly makes sense to me, and is why I find Az boring, hence my original statements regarding education. Believe it or not, they were nothing to do with me having a chip on my shoulder around not having a degree.

That said I've had some discussions plenty would consider quite boring at house parties over the years. Not metaphysics, but plenty of actual physics...and plenty of late nights playing Trivial Pursuit with our friends :(

I'm at work and didn't bring my calculator, so not sure this is really fair.

You don't want to get into an argument with me, when you're arguing with me on two different threads? Lacking internal consistency.

I find your confidence intriguing because it is based on nothing in particular. Another name for it would be 'faith'. I find the irony in you resorting to circular logic and faith quite amusing considering your previous stances on religion.

How can I be narrow minded when I'm asking you to broaden my horizons and explain something? Again, I'm fine with you taking the easy way out to keep your ego intact, but self-delusion is a shield that cracks easily when you have such a need for the approval of others.

Like I said, you made the allegations, I'm just asking for an explanation. Feel free to come back if you ever resolve your issues with a psychiatrist (as a psych intellectual I am qualified to help you, should you so desire).

I don't see the point in replying because I've never contested that Alex might be the greater maths intellectual of the two of us. I just wanted to know what that means. As Alex is not a definitions or logic intellectual (he clearly stated maths, physics, chemistry and ICT as his fields, thus connotating that all other fields fall under someone else's jurisdiction) he has not been able to submit a response.

You keep using intellectual so unusually.

If I'm an "intellectual" about anything it's US Government and Politics.

You are clearly not a sarcasm intellectual. I'm mocking Alex's belief that 'intellectual' is somehow subject-dependent/divisible.
