I purposely kept away from these forums for the better part of a year because I really tired of the negativity and the reams of idiots who populate this place. I found it was spoiling the whole experience for me, and there's so little discussion on these forums around strategy, so what's the bleeding point. If I want incessant nagging, I'd get back with my ex-girlfriend.
Anyway, I decided to venture back, having recently bought World Cup 2002 and going through a few growing pains (i.e. losing frequently.)
Low and behold, same idiots, same refrain, same tired old garbage. I read through some of the threads and realized there's actually a certain level of intimidation going on here, where people seem to be afraid to say they enjoy it, lest the crowd of pathologically negative EA haters set their sites on them.
Well, I paid $59.99 Canadian for it. Same I paid for FIFA 2002, which was a decent football game. I'd estimate I got about 2,000 hours of gameplay from Fifa 2002. That's a few cents an hour for entertainment. Going to the movie costs me $10. Going out for dinner $25. The only thing I ask in return of an investment is that I get some form of joy from it. And I have.
But of course people have to complain about everything. No Greenland side. Too hard. Too easy. Bad AI. Dandruff doesn't appear when greasy-coiffed players run fast. Joe Blow from his pub team didn't get a star rating. EA is an evil money-mongering outfit run by Satan Inc. blah blah etc. etc.
Then you have the people who haunt these forums with the fervence of a cult religion, trying to convert people to games they prefer. I haven't played any of these other games. I will when I see them available. But why push so hard? Are you on commission or something? Like the Zapatistas say, "We dream of a world where I can be I and you can be you and everything else between us in fine."
And these same critics, whose posts number in the thousands, buy the game. I don't like brussel sprouts. I don't buy them. I don't steal them to prove a point to a farmer. Then you guys take the time to play the game, simply so you can gather more fuel for stupid rhetoric about how weak it is. And you are always here. Always complaining. Ask yourself: is there a more productive use of my time besides complaining about a soccer game until I become wormfeed? I recommend sunshine and women - very worthwhile pursuits.
But I digress.
To my point. World Cup. Tremendous ambience and player rendering. Love the gameplay. Love the supposed "Drunken Tackles" (when I play locally, this is what happens) love the depth of the rosters, love the ball physics. Could it be better? Totally. The commentary wasn't as deep or detailed as I would have liked. Some of the new control and airplay systems are difficult. The AI seems a little tweaked so as to send opposing strikers off on wild forays at the computer's whim. Perfect? Not even close. But I really, really enjoy it, and will enjoy it for the next six months until EA produces another game, which I will eagerly await, and it will be imperfect as well.
In a forum like this, you certainly have to respect everyone's opinion. But when you can not look here for a year and come back to the same whinging trash, it's just sad. The first time we get your point, the second time, you've demonstrated your conviction. The 10,000th time, just impale yourself on something, please.
If you enjoy this game, I really urge you to stand up and be counted, and do your best to make this forum worthwhile. Never mind the critics. They're playing tennis with the garage door, and they'll never get anywhere.
Sorry for taking so long, but I really needed to say this. Count me among a supporter of this game.
And the opponents, as they say, are so much filth to the sewage grate.
