hellow evrybody.......
look in the first i wanna say whats my comp is.
1-Windows ME
2-Geforce2 MX400\440 64MB [the last version of update]
3-Creative Blaster 128MB
4-RAM 256MB
5-DirectX 8.1
6- 999 MHz Pentuim III
7-More Than 20GB Free [in one partition]

in the first time i play fifa good and after 2 weeks of playing it
my comp. is crash alot of time so i choase to format the my comp.
and i do it
i format my pc and when i was finished of install fifa 04 on my pc
i surprise with the very very very very SLOW menu [about 1 min when i choase something -for example when i go from PLAY MODE to another menu]
and i when be in the game [after i choase evrything] it be good and nothings slow
and after 3 dayz of that i surprise again when the game crash when i try to be in the game[match] !!
so mates can u help me plz ??

i think the graphics card is too low standard for one.
also direct x 8 may not be up to fifa 2004, but that is just conjection.

When you reformatted, did you instal you motherboard drivers?
which display drivers did you use?
did you install virus scanners and or firewall
have you tried disablining your sound.

In this order i woudl try

install direct x 9b
check and install latest nvidia drivers

disable any virus checker (especially any in you bios)
disable any firewall ,including the windows default one

If this doesent help
then disable your sound

If these still dont help, on a fresh install, then you will have to start thinking about hardware.

If it worked for a while then stopped, and you have checked all avenues of software problems,
Try replacing your memmory, and or cpu (borrow a friends to check)

If you have to buy anything new, I woudl definatly begin by replacing your graphics card, im afraid a geforce 2 just doesent cut it any more, a geforce 4 mx, is cheap and woudl be a big upgrade on your current card if you cannot afford a TI card

download the newest drivers for all the hardware you have in your pc and download directx 9

but i dont like DirectX 9 coz im sure the 8.1 run the game fine

Well, I have exactly the same video card (AMD 800, 384mb ram, Win 98) and on my computer the menu is extremely slow as well. However, with anisotropic filtering turned off (settings -> control panel -> display -> advanced -> GeForce) in-game speed is acceptable in 1024x768x32 mode.

If you got a "ddhelp" error when the game crashed, you need to run dxdiag (run -> dxdiag). It'll probably tell you there's a problem, or just crash. Run it again, and if it keeps crashing or saying there's a problem, you need to re-install directx 8.1. And if that's the case, you might as well install directx 9.

I really don't know why it is or how it works, but when you get a ddhelp error something happens to directx, rendering it corrupt one way or the other. And until you re-install directx the game that caused the error won't run, nor will some other games. The only reason I know this is that I've had this problem myself.

And if you ask me: get rid of Win ME and get 98 or XP instead. But that's just my opinion.

You have a pathetic system.

Windows ME? Yuck. 256 MB of RAM? Ouch. Not even a 1 Ghz processor? Ouch. GeForce 2 video card? Yikes!

My computer runs Fifa perfectly as well as any other game:

Windows XP
2.8 GHz Pentium 4
1024 DDR RAM
Radeon 9600 PRO 256 MB card

I suggest you upgrade your processor, buy more RAM and get a better video card before you even try to play the game.

It's not the video card and it's not the cpu. I have exactly the same video card, an even slower cpu and the game's playable. And besides, games don't crash because of a system that's too slow, certainly not when minimum requirements are met (600 mhz, 32mb video memory, 64mb ram, directx8.1 and GeForce 2 MX being one of the recommended video cards).

Run dxdiag, if it keeps crashing or saying there's a problem re-install directx. If that doesn't work, uninstall fifa, re-install directx and re-install fifa. Worked for me more than once.

Other option: uninstall your nvidia driver and (re)install the latest driver.

Try DirectX 9!!! it may have worked with it before but computers are pain in the arses and may have decided it doesnt want to work with it anymore! My PC weirdly starts to go wrong when new drivers are available for my grafix card etc. So i install the latest drivers and it works fine!!
