What is right with fifa 2004?

Well I cant agree or disagree with what has been said (since I havent played the full version yet).

Howerver I can comment on what I do know and based on what I have seen from the demo:

- I think the gameplay is much better than 2003!!! Actually I hated the game play of 2002 and in my opinion 03 was worse.

- EA will release and editor for it. Also keep in mind that using Football Fusion you can import items from CM2k4. So whomever is saying F2k4 wont have an editor does not have their facts straight.

- PC glitches? Well since I update my video drivers on my machine, I did notice the graphics were much smother.

- AI is rather decent (I think). I found the AI will mimic your game play to an extent so if you have a certain style of gameplay.

- Did I miss something but in older versions didnt the game always make substitutions once a player was injured?

- Play is too slow.. I love this one. Classic. Two schools of thought here. While some ppl want a slower game play (realistic) others want @ mach 3 (say arcade like). I think the game play is ok. Not too fast, not too slow. Cant say I've seen real players running up & down the field doing a 100m dash.

- Dribiling is in the game, unless of course you like playing with your hands behind your back. Come one ppl get real!!!

If the demo is anything like the full version, I think its much better than pervious versions (well except 2000 which is still my personal fav). Once I get my copy I'll give you guys my 2 cents on all of this. Till then...

Well, judging by the demo, it is better than 2003. But, after loyally buying Fifa (RTWC/ 99/ 2000/ 2001/ 2002/ WC 2002/ 2003 - so thats a commitment alright) I have decided time is up. Just like a relationship where certain repeated behaviours become too irritating to tolerate any longer, one has to call it quits. I had a 'fling' with a certain other game about a year ago, and now it is coming to the PC I am going to make it long term. Stadium and other graphics are editable - serious gameplay flaws aren't. Not once did a gameplay patch for 2003 make a substantial improvement, and looking at the 2004 parameters it will be the same this year.

I can't be bothered spending money on official licenses and nice pictures. I want to buy a football game, and goddamit this year I am going to. Roll on the 14th of November...

I know exactly where you're coming from rhizome, I've also bought every Fifa from 97 to 2001...and I stopped at 2001 because I then discovered Winning Eleven. I can also honestly say that the only Fifa I FULLY enjoyed was 98! I do have to admit that I did have a lot of fun playing 2001 against friends even though the game was flawed, it was still fun against a human opponent....which is why I'm gonna get Fifa2004, not for the graphics or the AI, just for the multi-player capabilities.

Still can't wait for next Feb. when WE& comes out in North America for the PS2 though! :D

That game still cracks me up when I play it - spin my way down the field against my brother and score...heheheh

guyz i know why fifa 2004 doesnt have international tournaments... its cause they are going to realise a EURO 2004 game.... so in EA's mind they will be saying "LEts not include International tournamennts in fifa 2004, Because then we can make more money by gettin ppls to buy EURO 2004 to play with the international sides" all they care bout is money!!!

The one thing I like about Fifa over PES is where you can press a button to make a player make a run...but apart from that the rest is crap.

To be honest, Elder is right, There probably isn't anubody in the video game business purely for the love of it. They're all in it to make money. It's just that some companies realize the way to make money and increase your fan base is to bring out an ever improving product otherwise you get a backlash and lose customers.

Konami are no more in it for the love than EA, let's not delude ourselves about it.

Thanks for sticking up! I have a friend who was in the video game business and trust me, at first he did it for the love of it, realized he couldn't make money, and has now moved on to be a teacher. It's a tough business and now I will post some EA financial figures from 2003. If you really think they are losing many costumers because people on this board complain, think again.

I want to link you to something, if you have the time to read it, it is EA's financial figures for the year 2003. For those of you who understand Financial Statements and business practices, they outline exactly where there business is, and where it's going. If you want the short version, they sold over 5 million copies of FIFA 2003, and total revenue for the entire company was 2.5 BILLION dollars.

Fun ain't it? And how about this as the NUMBER 2 ISSUE that EA wanted to address for all of you fans who think EA doesn't give a crap. It's on page 11, and states that EA wants to restore their FIFA franchise to the number one in the world. They do care, but just can't make eveyrone happy.

So anyway, go ahead and read it, it's quite interesting.

elder how come by your name it reads yellow card for continuos abuse or something like that. let me just point out something i think the reason y ea have such a success is becuz they were the only socer game out for the past 6 or 7 years< in some parts of the world eg us.> that was actually worth playing for ever that is until last year when wining 11 brought out a game that was a new and entertaing simulation. similtaniously fifa had brought out the possibly worst ever fifa <2003> so now fans are anrgy fifa now has some competition for the best soccer game .

ps have you played wining116 or pes 2 at all ?

I got my yellow for this running battle with another un-named poster. Too much negativity drove me crazy! Anyway, I have played very early versions of the game you mentioned. They weren't called WE, but I did enjoy them to be honest. I think I might have played a Winning Eleven game in Europe when I was over there a few times.

I actually left EA for a couple of years after 2001 came out. I just don't blindly support them as a company. And I am very happy there is competition. That will only make it better for all of us out here in gaming land.

My point is that all the negative comments on this board have become way out of hand. Most of the people commenting don't even have the game yet! But today I will go buy it, because I know it is a better game than everyone is saying it is.

I though I was going crazy

Well I've seen this topic go from bad to worse faster than a formula 1 race car! It seems that we have 2 schools of thought here so lets put the two (demo) products side by side.

PES3 PC Demo

Pros: Nice flashy GUI with a selection of 4 national teams to select. User inputs can be modified the way you want them (keyboard, gamepad etc). Graphics I found were ok (based on this topic I was expecting alot more). Player faces were good and the game play was not bad.

Cons: For staters, its a 217 MB download. I have a cable modem so it took about 3 hrs to download - lots of traffic but thats not the point. On my test PC an Athlon 850 with 512 MB RAM, Nvida Geforce 2 MX video card blah blah blah, the game ran slow (as if it was in slow motion).

FIFA 2004 Demo

Well I think most of you have more or less seen it so no reason for write another essay.

Some ppl said, FIFA is too slow. Well I found that the PES3 demo was no better. Another thing I recall was that F2k4 was not accurate, players look big, tall not to scale. I almost fell of my chair laughing when I saw the cinematics for the PES3 demo. The players were standing in the midfield and comparing that to the backround, they looked like Godzilla standing in the middle of Tokyo. So if your major issue was scale and accuracy I wouldnt call PES3 a marvel of engineering.

What is obvious however is that both games seem to have their weakpoints and strenghts. To flat out say F2k4 sucks well, thats all fine but compared to what? Its easy to bash a product when there is nothing else to compare it to.

Be well my friends
