hey guys,

i've just taken charge of Athletic Bilbao, and now i find out that i can only sign "basque" players.

i was wondering if anyone could give me an actual definition of what a "basque" player is and the best players to buy that are eligible to buy.

and also, why CAN i only sign these players?

The Basques ("Euskaldunak") are an indigenous people who inhabit parts of both Spain and France. They are found predominantly in four provinces in Spain and three in France. This area _ the Basque Country (Basque: Euskal Herria) - is to be found around the western edge of the Pyrenees on the coast of the Bay of Biscay.
Bilbao is from there and they only accept players that have this "nationality" as basques they prety much consider themselves as indipendent/not spanish or something like that. Used to be the same with Real Sociedad, but not anymore.

The Basque country is a northern region of Spain where Bilbao is. They have a very strong identitiy and in Bilbao's case they only use Basque players in their club.

the best Basque player you can probably get is Xabi Alonso. Real Sociedad are from San Sebastián and they have many Basque players. Other clubs with Basque players are Alavés, Eibar(2nd division). In the player search thing you should have the option to filter players Nationality just select Basque and you'll get the players from there.

Daz get Mendieta, he's a Basque.

EDIT: AhmedK, Real Sociedad are Basque but recently their allowed to buy foreigners again.

i was thinking of getting Mendieta, but then before i was managing Bilbao, i was managing Middlesbrough and his value is just too high now for someone of his age.

Mendieta is ok but i seem to remember him being slightly unreliable, i.e. he probably has a low consitency rating i would think.

But in the game they can get all kind of players except non-basque spanish
