WE8 Sales Suffering?

So WE8 sold some 670,000 units its first week -- the 1 million figure everybody likes to throw about was actually units shipped, not sold.

The following week, WE8 dropped to number 2 in Japan and sold less than 185,000 units.

These are stellar numbers and nobody's shedding tears for Konami.

But, what's your take? Is the slowdown issue hurting WE8 sales? It seems unusual that WE8 wouldn't own the number 1 spot in Japan for at least a couple of weeks following its release.

The title not selling 1 million copies during its first month or two would be very suprising.

Well, there may not be a 1,000,000 units sold but there sure are over a 1,000,000 copies at homes all over the world if you know what I mean. Maybe some peeps decided not to buy the game due to slowdown, get it by other means instead... Or maybe it's not the slowdown....

My best guess is they're all waiting for Winning Eleven 8 J-League. Why would the japanese buy the game without the japanese league now when they'll have that option come October? I'm a casual japanese fan is waiting for the true Japanese version.

Sorry, have to correct myself a bit.

WE8 was number 1 in Japan for two straight weeks. It dropped to second place in its 3rd week.

Regardless, combined sales have not yet "officially" reached 1 million units yet -- they will any day now -- although, as Jumbo points out, there's no doubt more than a million "copies" are being played around the world.

This still surprises me a bit, though. I'd figure that a "nearly fully" licensed WE would have a stronger showing on the Japanese charts.

The only explanation I can come up with is the slow-down issue, which I've learned to completely ignore in most cases...

...but there are still times...when my squad is trying to beat Man U...and that horrendous slowdown occurs...that I think, "WTF were Konami thinking letting this sh*t get by?"

Paco, what would you consider GOOD sales for a PS2 game only released in 1 country?
I would have thought the majority of sales would have been in the first week, I know I'll be getting PES4 on release for PC, not waiting 2 weeks, and I'd imagine all bar the thieves will do the same.

Forza Suarez! (ps brotha can you spare a dime?)
at least konami will have time to fix that slowdown by the time it gets to america. and any other bugs
