Well, I think the refs are better. There are many times when I tackle and say to myself 'that was stupid'. The animations for tackling are a lot deferent. When you tackle (especially slide without getting the ball), the person you tackles normally falls backwards. It looks really bad (as in, you made a really bad tackle) but the ref still gives a yellow card. I've gotten red cards by last man tackles from behind, deliberate tackles from behind (ball not even close). Oh I was tackled the other day playing columbia, my player was in the corner cut back then moved to the side immediately to avoid the oncoming defender, the defender slide my player and took him out, on the replay the ball wasn't close, he was promptly sent off.
And oh yeah, some refs like dishing out cards more than others. I don't know if anyone else notices this. Like in PES/WE5FE, there is a ref with thick black hair that i just waiting for you to breathe on an attacking player. And he dishes out a card. However the bald one, calls the game about right.
If there is one big let down with WE6 it is the fact that the refs are still not on the pitch...how difficult is this to implement?

I also found the Asian ref (dark skin) to be a pain in the neck in PES - I don't mind a ref that is harsh as long as he is equally harsh to both teams - but when you get games where the AI commit foul after foul and don't get a single card and then I commit one little trip and it's immediately a card....that really gets on my tits.
And I've lost count of the number of times that I have been clean through on goal and the last defender pulls my shirt - the ref gives the foul but never even gives a card for this - the game simply doesn't recognise the last man rule properly unless it's a sliding tackle from behind.

Yeah I hate that. A variation of that foul is still there but it isn't really pulling the shirt, it's more like a nudge or a trip up...your player is about to take a wack at the ball and the AI does something to stun them, can be annoying.
In WE6 a lot more fouls are called for little things. Like challenges in the air...sometimes you see a player end up on the ground (I think they call over the back or are trying to atleast). And there is another foul, if a player has beat you and you still press on the X button, your player kind pulls him down from behind. The animations for the fouls are amazing tho, I'm impressed.

the refs are not that unbalanced in favor of the CPU team anymore. they get booked too even red cards!
but sometimes definitely the ref sends your man off for a slide tackle that was approximately a yellow card...
anyway, i just played a world cup with france and lost to brazil 0-1 in the final on 5 stars! the game is so brilliant, there are still some flaws but it is so MUCH better than PES, it's scaring!
