WC Quarter-Finals: England vs Portugal [P]+[R]

Portugal played well fair enough. But you cant deny the fact that surrounding the referee waving your hands like mad and going down easily overshadows the game. But on here its normal to portugese to behave like that judging by responses.. They cant see anything wrong with it which is a real shame. Yes they won. But the game is overshadowed by the referee overreacting for a miserly push. And the behaviour of the players.

England do need to improve their play. No denying that. But the cheating is nothing new. Offcourse theres always a sacapegoat there always is. Its either Rooney the referee or Ronaldo. You should know that

THought the ref was really good today (surprisingly enough for this WC). The Rooney incident was strange though, the ref seemed to have no intent to pull any card out until the Roo pushed Ronaldo aside.

Your jumping the gun a bit. The replay shows the referee only reacted when Rooney pushed Ronaldo. Why did Ronaldo get pushed??? Because he was trying to convince the referee to send Rooney off. The replay shows. And your trying to defend that behaviour. Embarrassing.

you are trying to defend that while the opponent is on the ground , you can kick him "between the legs".

the referee only reacted when he isolated rooney , just as the rules demand.

really ... now rooney is the victim ?? next you will say that R. Carvalho attacted Rooney's foot with his dick ! and should be Carvalho to see red card

you should remember something that pauleta said " we respect other countries and want others to respect us" ( or something like that )

when someone kicks a fellow player when he is on the ground ... yes ... we tend to loose our temper.

just give respect ... i respect england , its a great team , great players ( lots of england players are my favourites in PES ) , but please respect portugal ( we arent cheeters )

Whatever,,Sick of trying to explain things to you. The referee will have his say on what really happened. The guy blew the whistle and put his hand sayin freekick. Then he booked rooney when he pushed Ronaldo. what does that look like?

whatever man. respect Portugal. As long as you dive and cheat no respect from me. You lot are porfessionals man. end of story

stop blaming all the things you can for your loose and low quality game. we were better .

and don't mix national duty with professional play in clubs. you know, i don't think you were expecting Ronaldo to kiss Rooney after that.

like you are an hardcore english I bet, just shut up and stop making yourself look like an arsehole and go f*cking support India like you should.

I hope he does move to Real Madrid, La Liga is much more suited to his style.

If it was the other way with Rooney doing the same no one would say anything. Funny as f*ck that you have to pick on something like this to serve as an excuse. According to you he shouldn't have went there just because he's a Man United player like Rooney. I thought clubs should have no meaning in internationals, guess that just me.

And like the ref would ever red card Rooney just because Ronaldo asked...

I think you should look at the whole thing a few more times and a little more closely.

Rooney didn't intend to kick anybody in the balls, he was fighting for the ball with two players and they both were trying to pull him down, but it's not that easy when you are with Wayne. So he took a step back to try and block Carvalho from the ball, unfortunately Ricardo was already on the ground and he got a boot in the unpleasant spot.

The referee reacted to it normally, by blowing the whistle and calling it a freekick to Portugal. He was just standing over Ricardo with his hand outstrectched to indicate the way a freekick will be taken with no intentions of even looking at Rooney.

But then Ronaldo came in, started complaining, so Rooney pushed him away and i am suspecting he said something not good as well, so the referee lifted his head up, pointed at Rooney immediately and went to show him the red card.

If Ronaldo didn't come in, then Rooney would have never pushed him and he would have never gotten a red card, that's a fact.

According to the FIFA spokeman on a TV interview the red card was for violent conduct (studs to groin area).

Don't they usually put the ref report online on the FIFA site also?

do we know for sure what the red card was for? was it for the stomp? if so, how do you tell if it's intentional, especially with all the tangling going on at the same time.

it seemed like the red was for the push. if that's the case, then yea, ronaldo being in the mix definitely instigated it.

you can argue that the ref allowed the whole incident to carry on too long and should have just blown the whistle after rooney and the two portugal players were all tangled up.

anyways, from soccernet:

"Ironically, Owen Hargreaves. the midfield man who has taken so much flak under Eriksson, was the man of the match, the only England player to score in the shoot-out, and England fans chanted: `There's only one Owen Hargreaves.' "

Really? And that's Ronaldo fault, not Rooney! By your words, Rooney is an inconscient kid who don't even know what the **** he is doing on that field.

C'mon, Ronaldo didn't even look at Rooney. It was Rooney totally fault. You have to start complaining more about youselves.

You understand this is all speculation right? We can´t possibily know what was the ref´s reasoning until he writes the report. Like we can´t know if Rooney´s actions on Carvalho were intentional or not. It´s all speculation. You say that Rooney wouldn´t have reacted that way if Ronaldo didn´t complain but the real issue here is that Rooney should have just kept his cool. If he didn´t push or insult then the referee wouldn´t have a reason to show him the red card. When Ronaldo is in the Nt, he should think about defending his team mates and not about his club. Deliberate or not Rooney did kick Carvalho and that explains Ronaldo´s reaction.

you can't be serious man? some of you guys are really starting to clutch at straws here looking for some justification or excuse...

That's like a convicted rapist saying "if she hadn't been there, I wouldn't have raped her and wouldn't be in jail" :|

Rooney, like everyone else is responsible for his own actions and behaviour.
