XD ok he is a nobody.
btw argentina is **** but will win the world cup, the prophecy can't be broken, they've got the messias wich already remake our history in a single season(2-6 = 0-5; triplete = 5cups team; play style = dream team 90-94; iniestazo = kaiserslautern) and is going to do the same with his national team, maradona team were also crap around Diego.

sounds like a tongue-in-cheek comment, but I'll respond to a rather valid perspective ...

as everyone knows, there's a lot of Argentinian talent at Maradona's disposal ... why didn't either of the in-form Lisandro López and Diego Milito start in attack? how about Kun? it almost feels like he left his son-in-law on the bench to not be accused of nepotism, instead of thinking about starting one the most talented young stars on the planet ...

and as I asked before why is Cambiasso overlooked when he is fit? and why is Higuaín overlooked when Gago still gets a call-up?

Milito came on with around 20 minutes to go ... but the rest of those aforementioned players could make no contribution to that decisive match ...

having to do the best with average players playing around one star is understandable ... that is NOT the case here ... this is self-induced mediocrity ...

their attack is awesome, but the midfield and the defense average, a lot of defensive midfielders and none playmaker, only lucho and never play, veron is good for 45 minutes.

I'm glad Argentina lost because of the Lippi-esque selection policy and decision making employed by El Diego: calling up disaster players like Burdisso, but not considering players like Pipita Higuaín, and Cuchu Cambiasso (he is injured at the moment, I know, but he has not been called up since Maradona), and instating Mascherano as captain when Pupi Zanetti is there ...

but I'm too happy with Brazil winning either ... Brazil are expected to not just win, but winning playing that fantasy joga bonito style that has enthralled fans and neutrals alike in decades past ... this current team's "effective" style is ugly compared to that ideal, and it is sad to see that this is what they call "modern football" ...
It's more of a Dunga thing...and in 2005's pointless cup and 2006 WC, they had the ultimate Joga Bonito team: Ronaldo, Adriano,Robinho,Kaká and Ronaldinho (who will only make his return after a real life DeLorean is invented) they ended up being pretty sh**. I don't really enjoy watching Brazil that much now...and I prefer Argentina more (they are one of they remaining NTs (or teams) that put skill over strength (I don't think I expressed that very well:blush:) and try to pass the ball past their opponent's rather than body their way around...and I want Higuaín to play for France.

filipe luis is the best LB from la liga.

Diego is the best AM in Serie A:coffe-anim:....Dunga has a formula which is working for him now,he's trying to take the risk free method and develop some kind of team chem. (hard for a NT) and their are hundreds of Brazilian player who can't break into the "Seleção". Pato got no minutes in the Confed. Cup and about 10 against Ecuador...during which he had that incredible goal scoring streak. Same goes for many others.

I was saying last week that Messi is probably the best player of all-time. If he can take Argentina to World Cup glory...it could (forgive me if you considered this blasphemy)be comparable to Diego in '86 minus that goal.

Anyway the World Cup will suck...no Nigeria (H):(.
Sorry for the longish post...

He didn't do it alone, he was a key factor for sure but he had a great colleagues and one hell of the coach. Football changed a lot, it's not like 80s when Maradona single handedly made Argentina and Napoli champions.

And I'm agree with others about Maradona's selection. There are lots of great players that he can select for his team to make impacts. Its foolish to use Messi and Tevez without a natural goal scorer like Milito.

^didn't got the sarcasm. :(

PD: maradona's napoli were a good team, not maradona +10 but diego make from a Uefa team a italian champions.

newbie original

We apologize for keeping the yellow too long
Yellow Card
Maybe it's Maradona's fault.....maybe he just can't coach. They should have hired a real coach.

It was Maradona+10,Napoli became nothing after Maradona, many years in seria B and they won nothing. They won two seria a titles in their history and of course with Maradona.

agreed, I don't like watching them now, and in 2006 they were not bad, but nowhere close to their potential ... but in 2005, they showed flashes of the potential that was brimming under the surface, it was generally thought and expected that they could build on that in 2006 ... they didn't, and it is a colossal shame ...

that is the only philosophy I prefer ... but my point was that that is how Brazil used to play, and that is how they should always play ... winning without that swagger just isn't "Brazilian" ...

haha, and he has said that he may still do so ... but he doesn't speak French, you know ...

hard luck ... it's not over, but it is certainly Tunisia's spot to throw away now ... the current Nigerian crop aren't as talented as the group in the 90s ... it doesn't excuse them from being unable to beat their main group rivals at home, and especially not from drawing with Mozambique ... it just means that the expectation can't be as high as it was back then, and it's time that Nigeria realizes that and builds with patience ...

Careca played for Napoli. There were other great players in the team.

I think young Canavaro was there as well, but the whole team was base on Maradona. Some players perform very well just when they play with great players.

Maybe, but Careca is only behind Coutinho, Romario and Ronaldo as strikers in Brazil. He was considered a great player wherever he played.

Woow they are all legends, just look at their stats:

Bebeto 39 goals in 75 games
Romario 71 in 85
Ronaldo 62 in 97
Careca 29 in 60

whose the most popular one around those?

I don't know if it has changed, but Careca has always been more popular.

Maybe it has to do with the fact that Bebeto always played as SS to Careca or Romario.

Of course Bebeto has a big advantage: he was World Champion.

But somehow, I don't remember anyone, ever, saying Bebeto in the same breath as Ronaldo, Romario and Careca.
