Wales v Canada [P] +[R]

1-0 is a pretty good result considering the opposition and the fact that it was an away fixture. Hopefully this will get us ready for the WCqualifying game against Belize in a couple weeks.

I think Canada beat Barbados in some friendly a couple of months ago. I'm not implying that beating Barbados is a good achievement because it isn't.;)

I don't think this game was televised here, but from what I read Ian Hume hit the post off a free kick. This kid is gonna be great for the NT. De Rosario also played well from what I read. However, same problems as usual for the strikers, they can't buy a goal.:p

Hume did hit the post with the free kick, it was well struck but cannoned off the outside of the post and out. Indeed we rode our luck at times, De Rosario nearly had a freak goal when Danny Coyne's hashed clearance bounced off him but thankfully wide. Bircham (or as my cousin called him, "Chicken Head") had a chance near the end but substitute keeper Margetson pulled off a fine save.

The first real chance came when Giggs' corner was totally misjudged by Onstad, with Hutchinson (I think) heading the ball on to the crossbar and out, but about 10 minutes later, we took the lead. Fletcher played a great ball over the top to Bellamy, whose pass on the byline set up Paul Parry to score with a bullet header.

Only a few months ago he was playing in the Conference - now he's had his third cap and scores his first goal!

We could have won by more than 1-0 to be honest, had no end of chances to increase the lead - Bellamy missed a guilt edged chance when he shook off a Canadian defender and only had Onstad to beat, but instead of curling it around the keeper, he went for power instead. Earnshaw had some good opportunities but the Canadians did play well as a defensive unit, snuffed out our threats.

Giggs got a standing ovation when he got taken off for Llewelyn just before the end - he played a blinder and supplied some good crosses for Bellamy and Earnshaw to get on to, but alas we just didn't get any more goals.

I was at the game as I said, paid £15 to go :)

I think we've got the best squad we've had since the early 80's, and together with the first competent coach Canada's had since I can remember, I really beleive we have a very real shot at fighting for the 3rd CONCACAF WC spot.. I still question a couple of Frank Yallop's call-ups but it's just friendlies right now so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt here
