Wales appeal against Russia loss
Monday, 26 January 2004

UEFA has received an official appeal from the Football Association of Wales (FAW) against the UEFA EURO 2004™ qualifying play-off defeat by Russia, following the positive doping test by Russia's Yegor Titov.

Titov ban
Titov tested positive for the banned substance bromantan after the first leg in Moscow on 15 November and received a 12-month ban from UEFA competition matches on Friday. The FAW has now asked the European governing body to overturn Russia's 1-0 aggregate victory by awarding Wales a 3-0 first-leg win.

FAW statement
The FAW said in a statement on its website: "The FAW in citing various UEFA Disciplinary Regulation and UEFA Regulation Governing Doping Control articles has asked UEFA to award the match to Wales with a 3-0 result."

Meeting date not set
UEFA spokesman Rob Faulkner said: "UEFA has received an appeal from the Welsh FA. It will be submitted to the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body for their review. A meeting date for this to happen has yet to be set."

Not a bad argument, but i doubt Wales will get anything from this ... :)
