When will you admit it? Have you ever seen such terrible player control in any other sports video game? Do players get locked in animations SO badly in NBA 2K8, NHL 08, or Madden that the developer had to create a Super-Cancel button?
Seriously. Here are my issues. Who disagrees?
Passing is terribly flawed. Regardless of what type of pass you intend, your player, regardless of his passer rating, will play a ball to a point where it's most easily intercepted by an opponent. Countless times I've had the pad pushed in one direction, say, down, and hit X to pass, only to have my guy pass the ball diagonally UP and RIGHT ... straight to a defender. If I tap the Triangle button to send a ball forward to a teammate my passer will BLAST a through ball and despite furiously hitting L1 to have the intended recipient run onto it, the goalkeeper will ALWAYS get there first. EVEN if I just tap the button the passer sends a rocket straight to the keeper.
I was controlling Obafemi Martins of Newcastle United. He has a speed and acceleration rating of 99. NINETY-NINE. He should not ever, Ever, EVER be outrun by most players, particularly at the beginning of the game. But guess what? He was caught from behind by William Gallas of Arsenal, who has an 82 speed rating. Gallas turned and went the other way, AND MARTINS COULD NOT CATCH UP. WTF is this? Instead of making better AI, fat, nerdy anime-porn loving Japanese ****head programmers cripple your players? Does Shingo "Teabag" Takatsuka even know how to play soccer?
Countless times on 3-1 and 3-2 breaks I'll have a dribbler sprinting up the middle or wing and a teammate will run with me, then immediately sprint towards the sidelines, then backwards. Because this is what an attacking forward should do; run parallel to the goal line on a breakaway.
Your players will NEVER come to a pass. They will stand there and let an opponent swoop in and steal a pass directed towards them. Plus, they are LOCKED in the animation and cannot move, unless, of course, you hit Super Cancel. Utterly ridiculous. Oh, yeah, hitting Super Cancel lowers your attack rating. Did they have to make it the same button sequence as that?
If you want a defender to come over and help he will ALWAYS take the incorrect angle. Say an opponent is running down the sideline. You hit Square to have one of your backs run towards him. Your defender will run STRAIGHT DOWN and THEN he will run parallel to the attacker, but by that time the attacker is already past him. He will never run to an interception point further ahead. Something like this is NOT that hard to fix!
If you try to maneuver a defender towards an attacking player to challenge him the computer will always have your player take the longest route around him as well as put him on the wrong side of the attacker, EVEN if you are pushing the stick in a different direction. As a corollary to this, it's so incredibly frustrating to constantly have to hit the Super-Cancel button because your player will run onto a ball when you don't want him to (say it's rolling out of bounds). If you do not Super-Cancel, you cannot control him; he will run towards the ball at full-speed and knock it out of bounds even if you are pressing the stick in a different direction, giving up a throw-in, or worse, a corner.
"That's what the Super-Cancel button is for, idiot!"
You're missing the point. The point is that the Super-Cancel button does nothing more than cure the symptoms of a seriously flawed game. The AI programming and engineering is SO bad they had to implement a button to get out of certain situations because they don't know how to properly code it. Think about it. WHAT OTHER GAME HAS A SUPER-CANCEL BUTTON?
I swear I'm going to start a site called PESblows.com and upload tons of replays I've got displaying this horrible demonstration of gameplay. I simply cannot understand how game reviewers can sit there and say, "The most realistic gameplay ever." Have these idiot writers played the game for more than 2 hours? Have they ever played real soccer?
The game is so frustratingly bad, yet, it's the only one out there that is even remotely decent. It's so sad that someone else out there hasn't made a soccer game to bury it OR Fifa. It would've been nice if 2K Sports had a go at it.
