USA vs. an Obscure and Mysterious Island Nation Across the Sea [R]

England vs. United States
Wembley Stadium
May 28, 2008
2:50 PM ET on ESPN Classic

I know little of this foreign land called "England," only that it is roughly the size of Wisconsin and that the natives speak a form of the English language. I'm told it is much like Cuba, only farther into the seas, close to the edge of the world. In this land there live wondrous creatures like dragons, goblins and atheists. I am also told the natives there have never seen the sun, for a sorcerer long ago cast a spell which covered the sky in grey clouds for eternity.

I predict we will lose this game by a score of two goals to zero, or nil, as the natives of this land say in their peculiar dialect.

YELLOW CARD: Untrustworthy
I predict us pulling an upset, thus setting a backlash against the players.... As they always do

Great post Run DMB

Thats the flag of the United Kingdom, not the English flag. The Irish, Welsh and Scots might not be too happy that you lumped them in with us. :)

I always wondered why we didn't get much sun. I also remember dating a couple of dragons in my time too. However you cannot beat going to a gobblin' party.

Too damn right we're not happy, I'd rather us remain mortal enemies thanks.

would be interesting to see what a British team could do though. Back a few years ago having giggs, keano etc on the same team would of done wonders.

Our country is so small when not united. But I guess the same thing can be said about Portugal, Netherlands & they do ok. I guess we would all do a lot better though if we were the size of Germany, France, Italy etc.

and here's a map with the 4 countries. The white line's split them.

Weird how there's so much segregation over a place so small. In England itself the accent changes so much from the south to the north. In fact from my home town to the next town or village just a few miles away the accent changes hugely. But then your could dump that all in one state like New York in America, thats when you realise how small England is. God knows how were expected to compete in things like the Olympics, at least that includes the UK instead of the individual nations. Seems somewhat like cheating, Portugal and Netherlands etc still have to go at it alone.

Anyway i've gone way off topic :D rant over

I'm totally against a British team, and so are a lot of other Scotland fans. After all, the UK is a union of countries, not an individual country. We've dedicated our lives to following Scotland, it'd be hard to take if a UK team was set up. I wouldn't even support it.

Don't see the big deal myself. So long as there people representing from each nation in the team. Like the British Lions in the rugby.

How is it any different from supporting national boxers, Olympic teams, the lions etc. I can think of a 101 things we do as a union of countries and yet we still remain divided with a minority of activities that would be benefited if done as a union.

Unfortunately I cant see it happening, would fifa even allow it? Makes a good topic this, wonder if we should start a discussion.

Back on topic, I do actually want the US to win it, just because I have more respect for the group of players in that team.

A perfect example of this is this video. Like, who the fack is Carlos Bocanegra they say. That's what a national team should be about. The English Rugby team won the damn world cup yet the overpaid jessies on the football team get all the attention and hype.

Alternatively, could you imagine how long it would take US fans to shut up if they won?

man, how do they not know about there own NT. Football is really under rated over there. I think I know more about the US team then those guys interviewed.

Weird how much they ignore the sport considering its the biggest sport in the world.

Decent first half. We played alright for the first 35 minutes, but only because England were rather anemic. They upped the intensity in the last 10 minutes of the half and we buckled under the pressure, committing a number of fouls in dangerous areas, one of which resulted in the goal.

Hopefully we can get back to stringing together some possession in the second half.

1 - 0

jimorrizon, how do you feel about the way Blanco has played in this game? He's been completely invisible if you ask me.
