USA v Paraguay friendly

USSoccer has released the squad to be brought in to face World Cup finalists Paraguay on July 6.

Goalkeepers (2): Joe Cannon (out of contract), Kasey Keller (Tottenham Hotspur)
Defenders (5): Carlos Bocanegra (Chicago Fire), Shifty Califf (Los Angeles Galaxy), Cory Gibbs (FC St. Pauli), Frankie Hejduk (Columbus Crew), Greg Vanney (FC Bastia)
Midfielders (7): DaMarcus Beasley (Chicago Fire), Bobby Convey (D.C. United), Eddie Lewis (Preston North End), Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado Rapids), Richard Mulrooney (San Jose Earthquakes), Claudio Reyna (Sunderland), Earnie Stewart (D.C. United)
Forwards (4): Landon Donovan (San Jose Earthquakes), Clint Mathis (MetroStars), Brian McBride (Columbus Crew), Josh Wolff (Kansas City Wizards)

Positives: No Berhalter and no Kirovski. Mulrooney over Armas. Keller back with the national team as well as Reyna and McBride and Wolff.

Negatives: The only right back on the roster is Hejduk. No O'brien. thats pretty much it. Oh and no Martino.

I hope this will not be the exact same team we take to the Gold Cup, although this certainly is better than our Confed Cup roster.

Some thoughts:

- no Martino? Because of the injury I suppose
- no Razov? Come on Bruce, Ante's Inferno is heating up. Razov has always been solid (and underappreciated) for the US national team
- no Sanneh, JOB or Brad? Still resting? I sure hope we get them back for the Gold Cup
- no Twellman? He was ill throughout the Confed cup, needs another chance
- no Berhalter
- Mulrooney
- no Kirovski
- Joe Cannon? Why not Adin Brown, Nick Rimando?

If Reyna is even close to 100% for the match we'll win. If not... (:/)

I agree with everything you said here. Great points. Even if Razov does play for the Fire, I guess I can stand him in a USA shirt.

I really hope K-Mart can return for the Gold Cup...sounds like he's got quite a future for the Nats.

100,000 is an underestimate. It can hold more than that, and actually once held 112,376 for an NFL American Bowl (American) football game in 1994.

That was weird...my last post was asking if the Azteca was all seater...but in the UK every club is required to have all seater stadiums under the taylor report after one of the disasters we had. I'm not sure about the rest of europe.

Joe Cannon. Probably because he doesnt have a team and the others are both in action the day before with MLS clubs. You will also notice that Howard was also not called in.

Why the hell should Cobi Jones be called us. He's been crap with the Galaxy, can't cross worth a damn, and after he blew two easy goals against Holland last year quite frankly I don't believe he will wear the jersey ever again. Greg "I can't strike a FK worth ****" Vanney is on the lineup again. I hope Buddle gets healthy fast, he has a bright future on this team. I'm pretty sure Keller is gonna play all 90 minutes.
