USA v. Japan [R&B]

The Japs should give us a much better test than Snoreway. The team they're bringing is pretty close to their best, so I think we go into this game as slight underdogs. If we win, I'm going to be pretty comfortable with our depth going into the World Cup.

US roster for this game.

My line-up predictions:

---------------------Reis----------------------

--------------Pope---------Conrad-------------
----Klein------------------------------Pearce---

--------------------Olsen----------------------
--------Dempsey--------------Donovan---------

--------Wolff------------------Rolfe------------
-------------------Twellman--------------------

OR

---------------------Reis----------------------

--------------Pope---------Conrad-------------
----Klein------------------------------Pearce---

--------------------Olsen----------------------
--------Dempsey--------------Noonan---------
-------------------Donovan--------------------

----------Twellman---------Rolfe---------------

Second one looks stronger imo, with Donovan supporting the two strikers. Seems like that's where he's most effective..

any word on Japan's roster? With the WC so close it doesn't make sense for qualified teams not to play their best players atm

Here's Japan's roster:

GOALKEEPERS (3):Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi, Takashi Shimoda, Ryota, Tsuzuki
DEFENDERS (9): Akira Kaji, Yuichi Komano, Tsuneyasu Miyamoto, Teruyuki Moniwa, Shinji Murai, Yuji Nakazawa, Alessandro Santos, Makoto Tanaka, Keisuke Tsuboi
MIDFIELDERS (7): Yuki Abe, Yasuhito Endo, Takashi ***unishi, Makoto Hasebe, Masashi Motoyama, Mistuo Ogasawara, Shinji Ono
FORWARDS (3):Tatsuhiko Kubo, Seiichiro Maki, Hisato Sato

Interesting stat: in the projected US line-up, only three players have 20 or more caps: Pope, Donovan and Wolff. In the projected Japan line-up, all 11 players have 26 or more caps.

Oh and yeah, Japan are going to play a 3-6-1. No joke.

i really want to watch this. i wish i still had cable...

3-6-1 is crazy, but i'm not surprised zico is playing that formula since japan's strength is their midfield.

japan's euro contingent aren't playing, but this should be a good test for the j-leaguers.

and as a sidenote, i wonder what the odds are that ono and/or kubo will get injured during this match...

I'm not surprised that Japan use 3-6-1. Midfielders are the key to their success to win the battle. Weak in the defense & attack, they've got nothing to lose to maximize the attacking from the midfield. It's gonna be tough for the US.

I think that even though both teams will be missing their European contingent, that hurts us a lot more than it hurts Japan. Our ideal starting line-up has 8 or 9 Europe-based players.

Should be a good game though, with players on both teams in a fierce battle for World Cup spots.

This Twellman being better than McBride thing is madness, was there a rash of cocaine addiction in the past week?

I'll have to record the second half of this one.

Still, I'm very interested in seeing how the U.S. drops another "Giant"...

I think it's a bit of jealousy on Wynalda's part. McBride is ten times the player Wynalda ever was.
Let's not go crazy. Wynalda is our all-time leading scorer with 34 goals; McBride would have to score 5 between now and our last World Cup game to catch him. McBride has enjoyed some success in the Premiership, but Wynalda enjoyed some success in the Bundesliga. There's really not much separating them.

Pope and Demps lightin up the board. Sweet passing play for the goal on the 2nd one. :rockman: Love seeing them pass like that in attack.
