United States v. Mexico [R]

Oh, and just to let you guys know, Brian McBride is crap and should be dropped like Jeff Agoos. And does anyone know what happened to Ben Olsen, he had so much promise to be a great striker.
Just becaue you don't like a player doesn't mean he's crap. McBride is one of our NT's most important players. He wins balls in the air, I'm not just talking about the penalty area, I mean when a US player clears the ball and McBride wins it in the air, knocking it down straight to Donovan's feet. McBride also has a tremendous work ethic and helps out defensively. His stenght in the air is especially important when playing CONCACAF teams since he is able to dominate, and if he gets good service from the mids, you can bet he'll put that header away. While he possesses little skill on the ball and is not the fastest forward out there, he is very acrobatic. He has scored some outstanding goals for the Crew and US NT from bycicle kicks, volleys and diving headers (including the 1997 MLS Goal of the Year). So don't tell me he's not an entertaining player to watch. He's what you'd call a :drevil: target man :drevil: . Not all world class stirkers are supposed to be gifted with great dribbling skill.

As for Ben Olsen (who is a midfielder, not a striker), he was called up a few times since his injury, but he's playing for the doomed DC United, who can't produce any goals despite the fact they have Santino Quaranta, Earnie Stewart, Etcheverry, Olsen, Kovalenko in their starting line-up and Stoitchkov and #1 draft pick Eskandarian coming off the bench. So I think he needs to be one of the players who step up for DC, and when he does that, it would be hard for Bruce Arena to keep him out of the US squad.

Frankie Hejduk was ****ty yesterday, most other people were good including Clint Mathis. Beasley and Donovan were looking dangerous too. Tim Howard was awesome. No Mexican players really stood out, but they played good team football.

A lot of young talent there.(H)

That's almost as funny as the guys at the CM forum predicitng USA winning world cup 2014.

McBride just isn't a great target man in my opinion. I know that he is the best we have, but I think it would maybe be a better option to start Mathis up there, and call up a young playmaker into the squad. When it's only MLSers playing I can see the reason for having in the starting 11, but when you're in the World Cup and Clint Mathis is on the bench in favor of this guy, it's just not right.

But you're right, I'm probably doomed to hate him. He was wretched at the 98 World Cup, and that's what I'll always remember him for. It's also why I'll always like Frankie Hejduk, he was great in that competition, swinging in cross after cross, and Eddie Pope (the American Desailly in my opinion)

Clearly Gareth hasn't heard of Freddie Adu, or the US Youth National Teams' recent results.

*Sniggers to himself*

Sorry to spoil your fun darling, but one player don't make a team. Freddy Adu is just starting puberty, he has around 10 years not to snap a muscle. If one muscle snaps during those 10 years, goodbye to the "American dream".

As for the youth national team, see above.

People are very stupid to predict such a result so early. Just surfing around forums, and people are having polls mentioning who is going to win the premiership next year *sigh*.

But look at England. Ameobi, Rooney, Jenas, Dawson blah blah blah. When will people enter reality and realise not to listen to anything UK and USA press prints. It's almost as trust-worthy as ohhhhhh, Al Jazeerah.

Making a prediction for 2014 is stupid but making a prediction for 2006 is not, because you can already see how the team is shaping up. I can give you a starting line-up right now for our 2006 World Cup team and it wouldn't be too far off from what the real one is going to be. The point is that we have several great young talents that will have matured once the next World Cup comes. There's not a doubt in my mind we'll be one of the world's top teams by 2006.

Actually accoring to the world cup we're the 8th best team. Laugh all you want you can't disprove that result.

2006 we can all make line-ups now. At least 5 players won't be included considering injuries and so on. There could be world war III, there could be teams boycotting due to facist leaders and so on. Nobody can predict the future. Hardly any people on SG can predict this weekends results. I very much doubt anybody could get a predicition right in around 3 years.

Oh, oh, oh. News just in. England's 1st team are young, by 2006 England will be experienced and England will lift the Jules Rimet once more!

Oh for ****s sake Bobby. Use a bit of sense. South Korea came 4th, Turkey came 3rd, Senegal beat France - They must be world champions soon.

Blah, blah, blah. It's a shame nobody puts together a decent case, I got the giggles now.

Yeah, McBride isn't the best target man in the world either, you could see that when he played for Everton - but when playing against singnificantly shorter CONCACAF competition he can sometimes be the team's MVP.

I didn't even watch USA in World Cup 98 or maybe I did but I just don't remember. It was right after I moved to the US so I didn't feel like it was really MY team, so instead I focused on Bulgaria (getting humiliated by Spain  ). I only became a USA NT fan late in 2001 (first two NT games I watched: USA 2-3 Honduras and Costa Rica 2-0 USA :crazyboy: ).

I keep trying to figure out... what exactly does a team need to do... to get your respect? You're treating World Cup 2002 results as if they were friendly games. Senegal beat France because on that day, they were simply the better team. Same thing with USA and Portugal. It's not as if these were meaningless games for Portugal or France. It's the ****ing World Cup, if you don't show up to play at the World Cup, when will you???

It's YOU who could use a bit of sense. You could use A LIFE too. :brow:

Try achievements. What did you win lately? Ohhhhh, erm, erm. The Under 12 pre-teen tourny?

Oh ok. Even though Brazil beat South Korea 3-2 due to a 90th minute penalty, South Korea and their previous results in the world cup, well, they should be champions of the world. *sigh*

Hmm, and it's you who could do with a decent motive when putting forward a case in future.]

You're basing your current argument around a bunch of teens who have about as much hair on the cocks, as I do on my finger nails. If you're naive enough to place a judgement on the future of a nations international football in the hands of a few school kiddies, then please do so. It ain't me who is being clowned out like a circus. If you honestly think cack like Spector, Adu and so on compare to Dagoberto, Adriano, Tevez, and the list goes on and on, then **** me are you brainless.

If you're all so good at predicitions, then what the **** are you doing infront of a PC. Get the hell out of your house, get down and play the lottery.
