[UK] Films on TV

This is something I used to do a long time ago, basically the films coming up on TV in the UK over the next week which I think are worth looking out for. I will only include movies which I have seen and know are good or movies which I am assured are good or worth watching by reliable sources. I will also only include the movies on the five terrestial channels as it would otherwise take far too long.

Anyone is welcome to contribute either films I have missed out or films to look out for on TV in other countries.

Week Beginning June 10th

June 10th - 22:30 - BBC2: American History X Excellent film, not much more needs to be said. Must see if you havent already.

June 11th - 13:30 - Channel 5: The Left Handed Gun Decent western and a good Paul Newman performance, not worth going out of your way to see but if you happen to be in...

June 14th - 22:30 - Channel 4: Inside Deep Throat I havent seen it, but Empire gave it five stars and I'm told it's good. Possibly good stroking material also.

June 15th - 00:35 - BBC2: In the Company of Men Again I havent seen this one, but I'm told it's LaBute's best, and is also highly misogynistic which should suit an all male forum.

June 16th - 23:00 - BBC: American Psycho Tends to divide critics, but I personally think it's fantastic, a great film as well as being deliciously violent.

Pick of the Week: American History X

What? I though this was gonna be a thread about good British movies on in the UK, not about some random American movies.

I was going to, I love Spacey also, but it clashes with American Psycho and out of the two it's the one I'd recommend.

Week Beginning June 17th

June 17th - 23:15 - BBC2: Topsy-Turvy A Gilbert and Sullivan biopic may not sound all that interesting, but it is very good by all accounts, stars Jim Broadbent who is a favourite of mine and is directed by the great Mike Leigh.

June 19th - 13:15 - Channel 4: Pimpernel Smith A great movie for dandys and one I really enjoyed as a kid, a reinterpretation of the Scarlet Pimpernel story set in WW2 about a Cambridge don who secretly helps smuggle prisoners out of Nazi germany. Not a must see but very enjoyable and also very interesting in what it does with the story.

June 19th - 23:15 - BB1: Kramer vs Kramer I never really liked this movie but many regard it as a classic, and both Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep picked up oscars for it. It won best picture and best director too, so I guess it is a must see if you havent already.

June 20th - 21:00 - Channel 5: Layer Cake A really great enjoyable British crime movie with alot of depth and great characters. Made by the producer of Lock Stock and Snatch, but much classier and more highbrow than those two, genuinely a really good movie and one I would highly recommend.

June 21st - 12:55 - Channel 4: Cromwell Not a particularly good film but if you can you should watch it purely to see the godly Alec Guiness and Richard Harris on screen together. Fantastic performances from fantastic actors in an otherwise over the top and rather dated film. Also rather inaccurate.

June 23rd - 14:40 - ITV1: Tora! Tora! Tora! Often regarded as a must see war movie, I'm not quite as keen on it as some, but it is very good and quite an important film, supposedly one of the best WW2 films of all in terms of realism and accuracy. Definately one you should see.

Pick of the Week: Layer Cake
