This was the first time in six years that I had been to abroad. I went to New Delhi on the 28th june and reached the
airport around 9:00 p.m. (my flight was at 12:00 on 29th june) and only at entering, we were in for a surprise. The
man who was checking tickets and passport told us that our flight was yesterday and we were a bit confused to
say the least, then we checked our tickets and there it was... utter shock but then my father took out a small piece
of paper and showed it to the man (it was the confirmation) but on the tickets, the dates were printed wrong...
Now we moved on to check in the baggage, here comes the next one...SURPRISE i.e., the man at the counter
told us that we all had checked for vegetarian meals... whatever be the matter... I am very particular about my
food and never want my food to be made a source of fun... I was in rage, so was my family coz' we all are from
a Punjabi Family and everyone relishes non-veg food... we tried to request the man to cancel the veg and
change it to non-veg but it is very difficult for them to make changes at such short notice but still he assured us that
onflight we would get non-veg. aahh that was good to hear. Now we moved on in the cue and waited for our turn.
By the way if you have ever been to India or gone out of it, you won't see any place else in the world where people
stack up withing a few minutes in numbers for their turn creating long cues which I don't think exist anywhere else. I
hate to say this but Indians are the most disorganized lot in the world.
ok back to the trip, we boarded the plane and it was almost full. New Delhi to Bangkok is a 4 hrs. flight and a the
return is 3 1/2 hrs. flight... the wind velocity has something to do with it. On the plane, when the air-hostess was
serving drinks, I asked here for a vodka in coke (you know , I can't have a proper drink in front of my father). She
was literally taken aback and I had to tell her that I'm 19 dammit ! Whatever happened to customer service... Luckily
we were served non-veg and I got to see a ****ty movie called Kangaroo Carlos...
Nothing out of the oridnary happened on the plane. On reaching Bangkok we quickly took care of the all the
formailites and moved out and there was a lady to receive us, we speedily moved to the van and the airport
was so empty (this is the off-season in thailand) that it almost looked creepy...The hotel was about a 45 minutes
drive from the airport so we just sat in the car and let the guide do the talking... The first impression I got of Bangkok
was that it is really really clean, the highways and the roads don't have even a single piece of paper lying on the
road. well that is just typical of me coz' i haven't been to the US or any developed countries. On reaching the hotel I
noticed that it was like in the centre of all the market and stores. the Ambassador Hotel is not a five star but it was
really beautiful. One of the more striking things of bangkok is that there are more women than men in bangkok,
all the jobs which i see men doing around in India were being performed by women, men in bangkok are mostly
Pimps (yeah you heard me) or either cab drivers, apart from that i couldn't see any men around.
our hotel was at SOI 11 ( soi means street ) and soi 5,7,9,and 11 had many street markets filled with pirated vcds,
dvds etc... and lots and lots of football jerseys.. I bought England and Milan AC jersey for myself and man utd.
for a friend of mine, these jerseys are not fake ! they are made in thailand and these markets are selling them for
lower prices...
Since so much of women was on show in bangkok, i decided to take a walk at around 10 p.m. to check out the
markets and to my surprise, all the women were lined up waiting for their customers... i just couldn't resist but
then if i had come alone then, it would have been a different story... nevertheless i got some cds and passed
my time in the hotel, we did a lot of shopping from the stores like Robinson and Central coz' the currency of thailand
BAHT is almost equivalent to Rupee in India and you can find better quality stuff as compared to India here for
the same price. Other than that it was going for sightseeing to the grand palace and some temples namely
the reclining buddha temple and the laughing buddha temple and a gems factory.
We were for 4 nights in bangkok and then we took a flight to phuket which is for 1 hr....
PS: what i think of Bangkok in short is that it is a land of Prostitutes
the rest of trip i.e. the trip to phuket island, i will post later
