Transfers vs. Youth Development

I have a dillema, a good dillema but a dillema no less.

I am Man Utd in my 2nd season :).

Heres What The Squad Looks Like:

GKs
Barthez- currently on loan at Parma
Howard- 1st choice
Ricardo- on loan at Racing Santander
Carroll- 2nd Choice

On the Keeper Front: I am gonna sell Barthez at the end of the season. Should I keep Ricardo as backup for next season and sell Roy Carroll.. or vice versa

Defenders
Ferdinand
Brown
P Neville
G Neville
Silvestre
O'Shea
Albrechtson
Dawson

Midfielders
Keane
Butt
Ronaldo
Giggs
Djemba-Djemba
Kleberson
Fletcher
Fortune
Scholes
Richardson

Breakdown: I think Keane is gonna retire soon so I lose a d-mid. I want to off-load both Djemba-Djemba and Fortune. I am looking to bring in Robben from PSV and Parker from Charlton.

Strikers
Solskjaer
RVN
Forlan
Aghahowa

Solskjaer is 30 and nearing the end of his use... as for Forlan I am not quite sure what to do.. keep him or sell him. I am bringing in Adriano either way.

All of the above is my current plan but I have a hell of a youth squad with Spector, Makofo, Eagles, all young but up and coming. With Fletcher and Richardson I seem to have the flanks covered. Up front there many promising prospects... Bellion, Hussaine, Babel (brought in from the Ajax Youth System), Nardiello, etc.

So here is my dillema should I just sell all my aging players, minimize incoming tranfers and just bring these players into the squad when they are ready... or should I continue with my 1st team work; and let the young guns filter out (even if they are quite good but play a position with a lot of depth). In other words, continue as normal and just have a large squad but I may never know how good this or that player could have been.

I was asking advice though because i am a bit unsure with what to do... i know i am the one who makes the decisions but i was asking for guidance from those with experience in such matters.

firstly, if you want to sell your old players, you can sell them of course, but dont offer to clubs, or you will never get respect as a manager, let their contract run out, if their age is 33 and above, have to go now

id go with youth, Man Utd are always one of those clubs who play their youngsters, unlike a lot of premiership clubs i could mention who tend to offload them. I would let your older players retire gracefully at your club and just not play them, that way influential players such as Keane will have a good impact on the morale even if they arnt being played. Buy in Robben and Adriano and leave the signings at that, then bring through your youth to play next season.

You've probably got cash to burn, but once Jami Puustinen(Manchester United U19's) turns 18 or 19, bring him up to the first team, he is brilliant.

Klebersons stats should boost up amazingly after a season or 2, plus he has the influence to be the new skipper after Roy Keane retires, great player.

If you are playing on medium database, then Puustinen will appear in your first-team from the start of the game(I just send him straight to U19's).

I dont know if he's on the small db.

Unless your playing CM4?.

make sure you buy Fabio Paim from sporting right away! He's 13 when the game starts so he'll be more or less free, and he'll turn into a £20m + player within 6 season!

Also, Eddie Johnson, Luke Steele and Jon Spector are the best of the Man Utd youth players on CM4, i would recommend getting Glen Johnson and Jay McEveley if you want a couple of other awesome youngsters.

I would recommend investing in youth players for sure, there's nothing more satisfying than watching a player you brought through the ranks score a vital goal in the champions league :D

On Fabio Paim... does he just have great ratings(Porhallson-type)... or do his stats develop over time?

Fabio Paim is AMAZING in CM4, get him. (H)

I'm sure he's just as good in CM03/04 aswell(I still need to check on that)

I have decided to go into lower-league management... do you reccomend i start in conference or 3rd division?

I can't say I know much about the lower leagues and the only team i know much about is Yeovil Town. Hopefully they beat the 'pool tommorrow buts for another forum. Is there any clubs that you suggest and perhaps a list of players that i can definetly sign with a small transfer budget.

I will loan players obviously... but I want to find some good players to strengthen whatever squad I choose.

Fabio Paim is amazing in Cm4, got his value up to 40 million pounds, and in CM03/04 he's still great too, pot. ability of 178:rockman:

Yeah, the only problem is that u have to wait for a few years to actualy be good, or at least become an adult. I've read many times that players should be adults b4 they start playin in the first team
