Trading Card Collectors

I remember collecting Captain Scarlet cards that came with bubble gum that tasted like cardboard (or maybe it was a blank pink collector card?!). Never did get a full set, even with four of my mates chipping in.

The only collection I've got now is Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction September 1976 to September 2006, all boxed up in the attic.

I used to do that a lot when I was a kid up until I was about 12-13. Would get my allowance and go to the card shop. Not soccer though, mostly football, baseball, and basketball.

Haha, I remember when chewing gum was included with packs of cards.

Slightly healthier than when my Dad collected cards. Then they came in a packet of 20 Players Filter Tipped!

Pokemon was awesome. But all of these trading card games were horrible. I dunno if I had an addictive personality or if it's a child thing, but I would collect all those shits. Football stickers, pokemon cards, Magic cards, Yu-gi-Oh cards. I don't wanna think how much money was wasted on all that shit. Final straw was when got into Warhammer and after buying a bunch of boxes and kits I realised that it was a sad and horrible game and dropped all those collectors' things.

I dunno if it was caused by or the cause of my hoarding personality, but any collection I have now needs to be complete. If I buy a CD (or download a song) I need to get everything in that album, then by that artist. TV dvds, same. I even have a Nolan collection. Starting to do the same with books which is at least more productive but it could cripple me when I become independent.

I used to be exactly like you. I collected Pokemons, Star Wars action figures, Warhammer, stamps, meccano etc voraciously without ever playing with them or learning the rules of the games (I did paint the warhammer).... then as I got older I bought loads of DVDs and books, at one point I had over a thousand books half of which I hadnt even read, but when I went into a second hand book stores I had to buy all the ones I wanted even though I knew it would be years til I read them. I finally broke this mentality at university when many of my books and DVDs disappeared because people "borrowed" them and then constantly moving flats I lost things along the way...... now half my books have gone missing and the other half are in attics in Edinburgh, as is my £500 record collection, and I dont even care. Now when I want to read a book I buy it and then give it away when I'm finished and I sold all my remaining DVDs on ebay and I feel better for it.
