Tournaments with your friends : EA Have messed it up again !!!

Important for you who are looking forward to playing
tournaments with your friends again !!

OK, in FIFA 2002 EA Sports removed the reason for playing
a fotball-game (the option to play tournament with your friends
with more than 1 user seleceted team like you could in
FIFA 2001..)

There were lot's of complaints about this issue on FIFA 2002.

In FIFA 2003 I hoped they (EA Sports) would have fixed
this major flause....

Now in FIFA 2003 you can play a "tournament" with your friends
again, but what has happend now !??

EA Sports have messed it even more up in this version of FIFA.
When you select e.g. custom tournament, you get to select
the number of user-teams. But now you will have to play
a series of matches in the same league with all of the other user
selected teams in order to advance to the knoockout phase
of the so-called-tournament. This means if you select e.g a
total of 16 teams we will have to spend many hours to complete
the qualifying phase.

(FIFA 2001 would have divided these 16 teams into 4 groups
of 4 teams each)

THIS IS RIDICILOUS !!! What kind of tournament system is this ??
Canadian ? Hockey ?

And you don't even get to select any tournament options like in
FIFA 2001.. >:(

Why have they removed the system where u play along with
e.g 3 other teams in a qualifying group, and then e.g the
2 best teams advance from each group !???? >:(

And if you select EFA-trophy tournament, you will be out of
the "tournament" if you loose 1-2 matches. In FIFA 2001
you could loose several matches and still be able to qualify
for the knockout phase of the tournament.

And mabye the worst; If you play ECC-cup-tournament and play
with a specific team, e.g. Newcastle United, you will always be
put in the same group with the same teams as the last time you
played this tournament. Never the joy of playing against a new
team, or teams of your own choice !!

I can't understand what goes on in these peoples (EA Sports)
minds, I REALLY CAN'T !!!! - All those nice graphics in the game,
and they manage to ruin the heart of the game, - the tournament
mode..

There are many other factors with this game that requires
attention, but I won't bother with them now, EA Sports have
yet again dissapointed me and ruined my x-mas for me and
my friends.

DISSAPOINTED

Just wanted to make one thing clearer about my thread :

When I wrote about selecting 16 teams in a tournament,
I ment 16 teams total, with only about 2-4 user selected teams.

But each of these 2-4 user-selected teams will have to play
against all of the other 15 team 2 times, wich means you
will be spending hours, or mabye days in completing the
qualifying for the knockout phase.

RIDICILOUS OF EA SPORTS !!!

Can absolutely not understand how they came up with this..

A suitable amount of time spending on a tournament should
not exceed 1,5-2 hours of play..

EA Sports could have done it this year, but they managed it
again, to ruin the game by ruining tournament mode !! :(

Of course it is messed up !!!

Of course tournament mode is messed up !!
You probably did not understand what I wrote.
I have played the FIFA series since FIFA 94, and
I know what I am talking about!!

In FIFA 2003 you have 7 different tournament modes :

1.Custom Tournament
2.EFA Trophy
3.European Champions Cup (Champions League ?)
4.International Cup
5.Ladder Tournament
6.Regional Challenge
7.World Tour

The only tournament modes that let's you select
more than 1 user-controlled team is :

1.Custom Tournament
2.EFA Trophy
3.European Champions Cup

1. Custom Tournament :
-When you select this tournament mode, you get to
select multiple user teams, and CPU-teams of your
own choice. But FIFA 2003 does'nt
divide these user-selected teams into different
groups (as FIFA 2001), but put them all into 1 group
together. This means, that if you select e.g 4 user
selected teams + 12 other teams (16 totally), FIFA 2003
will make 1 qualifying group with these 16 teams. Hence
you will have to play a total of 30 matches with each
user selected team. If you put each game into the minimum
of 2x2min=4 min, you will have to play approx. 30x4min=120min,
120min x 4 teams = 480 minutes, = 8hours (1 working day)
of total qualifying time alone, WICH IS RIDICILOUS !!!!!!!
- If FIFA 2003 had divided these 16 teams into 4 groups
of 4 teams (as FIFA 2001 does, with 1 user controlled team in
each group), the total time of qualifying would be 6 matches x 4
minutes x 4 teams = 96 minutes = 1 hours and 36 minutes !!!!
- And you do not either get to select how many teams that
advance from this qualifying group/league, wich makes this
tournament mode in FIFA 2003 a JOKE !!!

2. EFA Trophy :
- When you select the EFA Trophy tournament mode you get
to select multiple user controlled teams, but not the
CPU-controlled teams. You will be put in a random group
with 1 other team, and will hence have 2 matches (2 chances)
of qualifying for the next round. The drawback here is that
you don't get to select the other teams (CPU-teams), and
that you get only 2 chanches of qualifying for the next round.
So if you want to play a tournament with only Premier League
teams, this is something you can not do. So this mode of
tournament totally sucks too !!

3. European Championship Cup
- In Europen Championship Cup you get to select multiple
user controlled teams, but you do not get to select the
other teams (CPU-teams). In this tournament-mode, you
are beeing put up in groups of 4 teams (as in FIFA 2001),
but the drawback is that you don't get to select the
CPU-teams by yourself, and you ALWAYS, yes ALWAYS,
have to play against the same teams !! Wich make also
this tournament mode a joke. If your favourite team is
Manchester United, you will ALWAYS have to play in the
qualifying stage against : Real Madrid, Brønby IF and
Rosenborg BK. This is totally RIDICILOUS !!!

All the other tournament modes does not let you select
any more than only 1 user selected team, wich even
further ruins the game..

In International Cup, the qualifying phase is divided into
4 groups with 4 teams (a total of 16 teams). But in this
cup mode you only get to play with international teams,
and of course, you only get to select 1 user selected team!!
(If you could have chosen multiple user-teams, and mabye
leagues of your own in this tournament-mode, everything would
have been great, but EA Sports have decided that you should not!!!)

AAARRRGHHH !!!!!! :f***:

Also you have no options whatsover to make on your own
before the tournament starts.

It's clearly that EA Sports have put little work into tournament
mode in this version of FIFA also..

Hence if your favourite thing in earlier versions of FIFA was
inviting your friends over for 2-3 hours of tournament play
in FIFA, you will get dissapointed also with this version of FIFA..

But, if your favourite thing is just playing "friendlies" once in a
while, then mabye this is a great game for you !!

Me and all of my FIFA-buddies are sincerely dissapointed
yet again with this release of FIFA, since we can not
setup a tournament like we used to in FIFA 99/2000/2001!!!

Asking EA Sports to correct these "bugs" would be like praying
to GOD for a brand new Ferrari for x-mas ... :crazyboy:

Man.... It is the same thing of last years... Complaints and more complaints about SO MANY flaws, made by unsatisfied costumers of EA, don´t you realize that spending money on their mistakes is just going to make them think that their product is good and so they won´t make efforts enough to make it better ??? I said that I wouldn´t buy this game after playing the demo, because I knew that a few weeks after the release of the game I would see hundreds of threads like these, with complaints os several things... And I sure did right.. Perhaps I get a copy of the game with a friend, but I knew it was not worth buying... Let´s see if EA will deserve any money from me next year..

Cheers

messus may i ask u something: can u create a tournament but in a form of league and not cup? if yes up to how many teams can u include and up to how many user teams can u have?
and something else: cant u simulate auto. a match of your team which u dont want to play?

player13,

you may not create any tournaments other
than the ones default in the game.

But, you may set the Custom Tournament to play only "league",
and if you do that you may select up to 8 user-controlled
teams, with a total of 20 competing teams, user+CPU.

And yes, u may also "simulate" fixtures you do not want to play.

So, in a way, you may say that "Custom Tournament" is not
a "tournament" mode, but more a custom-"league" mode ..

In FIFA 2001 you had the option to customize your tournament
properly, with these options :

- Tournament Name
- Tournament Format : (League/League+KO/KO)
- Type of teams : (Club/International)
- Number of teams : (-> 32)
- Number of user teams : (-> 8)
- Number of Groups : (-> 8)
- Matches v each opponent : (-> 4)
- Teams advancing from each group : (-> 2)
- Legs v each knocout opponent : (-> 2)
- Legs v each opponent in final : (-> 2)
- Monthe to begin : (january -> desember)

In FIFA 2003, the only of these options you can
decide for yourself, is Tournament Format (league/KO),
Number of teams (-> 20) and Number of user teams (-> 8).

But then again, you can't select number of groups, EA Sports
are forcing you to play in only 1 group !!! So Custom Tournament
in FIFA 2003 really SUCKS BIG TIME !!! :f***:

EA Sports should have kept the custom-tournament system
from FIFA 2001, and combined that with the upgraded AI
and graphics in FIFA 2003, but no. Instead of walking 2 steps
forward, they walk 1 step forward, and 3 steps back !!

Canadians should concentrate on other games than
footballgames, because it seems like they don't have a clue
about football.. The only thing they care about is graphics..

(And WTF is it with EA Sports making Ruud v.Nistelrooy (Man.U)
just as fast as Michael Owen (Liverpool), and even faster than
Craig Bellamy (Newcastle U.) !???? - RIDICILOUS!)

Playing leagues and tournaments with more than one (human) player was the #1 feature I was waiting for in FIFA. It sounds like they went about halfway with it. This is disappointing. Questions:

Can you at least save a multiplayer league or tournament in progress and come back to it later?

Is it also true that you cannot play multiplayer in leagues or tournaments online? (i.e. only "friendlies" online)

I totally agree with you man, multiuser-tournaments are
the sole reason for playing a football-game...

What's the idea of playing just friendlies ?? U got to add
some excitement to the game, and you don't get that
by playing friendlies..

But to your question, Yes, u may save a tournament-game and
continue it at a later time...

But, no, you may not play multiplayer tournaments online,
only friendlies !! You may not invite a friend of yours in one
city, to join you and your friends in your home in your tournament
on your machine...

But, hey why would you wanna do that ? You would be stuck
for hours, and mabye days for completing this new STUPID
tournament system EA Sports have implemented in FIFA 2003 !!

Tomorrow I am gonna blow the dust of my PS2, and test PES2
and TIF 2003 to find out if it is any better than FIFA 2003.
PES1 was way better than FIFA 2002, so I may hope I am lucky!!

Good luck anyway, I regret BIG TIME in giving EA Sports my money
this year !!
