right, i've heard people say that tactics dont matter on CM4, and that you can just put out any 11 players and win a match.. i've decided to test that theory :)

I have an away match against Morecambe in the FA Cup 4th round which i'm going to play later today, and i wanted a few ideas on how to really put this theory to the test!

So far, my idea is to play a Goalkeeper and 10 forwards :) and see if i score more than i let in!

I'm Man Utd by the way!

let me know, i'm planning on playing this match within the next couple of hours :)

How about mixing the line-up up completely? Check the goalkeeper stats of all your field players and play the one with 1 in goal, play forwards at defence and def. midfield, defenders at midfield and att. midfield, and goalkeepers at forward... or whatever is worst.

it seems like a good idea, i think the idea of playing a goalie then 10 stikers is a good one.

How about playing a striker in goal and ten goalies in the field? :D

yeah but then you're not exaclty testing the teactics engine, your testing the tactics and player engines.

TROD. thats not what mark said.

the goalie test

well, i played a normal-ish formation in the first half of 2-1-2-1-4, made up of a LB in goal and 10 goalies on the field. In the second half i changed to 0-5-5 and just look what happened...

the striker test

ok, for this test i played my normal 4-1-2-1-2 formation, but made up entirely of F and S players except the GK. For the second half i played the 0-5-5 formation again :)

lineup: GK - Steele
everyone else: - Raul, Cristiano Ronaldo, Eddie Johnson, Tony Johnson, Leonardo Grimaldi, Craig Hughes, Thierry Henry, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Steve Ellis, Roar Borrensen

Didn't do all that badly this time, but it's fairly obvious that you can't play 0 men in defence and then win a match. Every attack they have, they are clean through as there's never any men in your own half except the goalkeeper. It also seems that the offside rule doesn't apply anymore

the backwards test

Ok, for the final test, i played a backwards formation like Ruud suggested, and actually won! I played my normal 4-1-2-1-2 formation throughout the match and made a couple of substitutions for a change, but kept players all out of position for the whole match. From this test i noticed that a) it's not a good idea having beckham as goalkeeper AND free kick/corner/penalty taker, and if you sub on a GK as an outfield player, he wears his GK kit out on pitch!

All in all though, i don't know if i've come to any conclusions about this at all... obviously i did crap in all 3 matches considering i was against Morecambe, but was it the players or was it the tactics? Perhaps it's a bit of both. At least i can safely say that it doesn't just take selecting any 11 players and any tactic to be successful, which was the reason for the tests in the first place.
