Yep, I thought this much was obvious. Winter Olympics primary requirement is ski slopes.

This is big news in Vancouver, the previous hosts and also a very gay friendly city, everyone is talking about it. Would love to see Canada retain the hockey gold, though more likely with the women than the men I fear.

Australia are just going to match our last efforts where we won two golds and a silver....clearly winter sports aren't our strength

Winter Games host cities are always weird because you need mountains. You can't host it in fucking St. Petersburg.

That said, I wonder how long before somewhere like Dubai, Qatar etc builds the facilities indoor or something.

They're already experimenting with it. Dubai has an indoor slope. It won't be long. I'm shocked they haven't recruited a couple of Americans or Canadians to compete for them yet given the depth we have in winter sports.

Same with the UK, we dont even really watch it in the UK. This one is getting slightly more media coverage than usual but only because of the political element.

Yeah I guess this is inevitable, and then they will fail and it will be moved to Vancouver at a different time of year but still played under the banner Qatar 2026

Curling is growing in popularity in Charlotte, the local club is actually moving to a purpose built facility either late this year or early next year. They've been sharing an "ice center" with the ice hockey and figure skating clubs.

Winter olympics seems to have so many more hotties than summer. Maybe because there are so many girls that are toned, but not super muscley as girls in the summer games often are.

Summer games you have long jumpers, pole vaulters and the occasional over aged gymnast. Winter, you have LOADS.

EDIT: Probably also helps that the sports are huge in Scandinavia and Northern/Central Europe. Even the Americans, Australians etc that compete often have their roots in those countries.
