The Official Rotherham United FC Thread

Don't all laugh at once, just thought id create this thread since there isnt one already :D

Though i have a reason, and that reason is the fact that the millers NEED to pick up points fast or are gonna find themselves in league 1.

However:

"Once again Rotherham United's hopes of bringing in a striker ahead of tomorrow's game have been thwarted. Manager Ronnie Moore explained: "We had Neil shipperley and Dougie Freedman watched at Crystal Palace in midweek, they both had clause in their contract that said if they went to the Premiership, their wages would be doubled so we can't even pay their tax compared to what out highest earner is getting. Freedman was actually sub for the reserves but he doesn't want to come out on loan and Palace won't let him out either.

I spoke to Millwall's Neil Harris at our hotel on Tuesday with permission from the club. He had been told he could come out on a free but that has now changed and they want a fee. We were close to getting Leicester's Trevor Benjamin, he would give us a bit of pace, we thought the deal would be done earlier this week but he was on the bench for Leicester in midweek.

Elvis Hammond at Fulham is another player we have looked at, he was on loan at Norwich last season, he is very quick and I was going to watch him play on Wednesday but he picked up an injury so didn't play. We just have to keep plugging away."

Darn, if anyone has been to any of the rotherham games (away i mean) then you'll no just how bad they really are. They REALLY needed a new striker

most probably, at the start of the season i predicted 18 goals, i thought that was pessimistic, so far i think they have 3, lol

They attack so badly, route 1 doesnt work anymore.

After witnissing an abysmal performance by Rotheram on Tuesday evening, I can safely say your problem is your attack.

You play with 10 men behind the ball, and expect to hit teams on the counter attack.

A 4-5-1 counter attack does not work. Teams will keep bombarding and pressuring until they score. Alas, on Tuesday, a goal came from a set piece as I anticpated it would, and not from open play. Rotheram are extremely poor at set-pieces too which makes such a defensive tactic extremely uneffective.

The playing style is like most in this league, Burnley also done it. You need pacey wingers, you need a pacey clinical finisher. And you need creativity. There's none.

Rotheram, came accross as a boring side with no flair, and only a primary utility - that being physical play. Attempting to frustrate the opponents and pinch a goal. Possibly why your goal difference, especially scored, is so poor this season.

Your defence isn't too bad, I've seen worse. However your attack is absolutely shambolic, and only Davenport was needed to keep your attack at bay.

If it makes you feel any better, I put £20 on Rotheram to be relegated.

completly agree with everything you say, i especially wants your opinion cos i knew youd have seen the west ham game :D

The defence isnt dreadful at all, its.... ok, its pretty much a decent to average championship defence, it isnt fast, it isnt clever but its experienced.

However, the midfield lacks ANY creativity, sedgwick and monky are awful and any newer players havent done a thing to improve it.

Upfront we still miss Alan Lee and Darren Byfield who Booth should never have sold (at least not both of them), now we struggle with Proctor and Shaw :(

But this isnt our problem, it is, as you quite rightly said the tactics. There isnt a chance in hell of scoring goals via a counter attack with one striker up whos about as fast as Tony Adams.

They arnt even good in the air! lol.

Ronnie's tactics are looking dated, they smell of a far away world called the 90's, football has moved on, Division 1 has moved on, and now the championship is such an inappropiate name for a club such as Rotherham.

8000 fans a game isnt enough, a club with no money, no prospects and a manager distinctly stook in the 90's, here we come League 1.

"Rotherham United have today completed the loan signing of Portsmouth's Mark Burchill and he will go straight into the squad for tomorrow's home game against Millwall.

The 24-year-old started his career at Celtic where he made his impact as a teenager and in 1998/99 he scored nine goals in 21 appearances and the following season he hit 13 from 28. He moved to Birmingham City on loan in September and subsequently had a loan spell at Ipswich Town before returning north of the border again. Portsmouth paid £600,000 for him in August 2001 before he was on the move again with brief spells at Dundee, Wigan Athletic and Sheffield Wednesday.

So far this season he has been out of favour at Fratton Park so he has welcomed the opportunity of playing some first team football. Burchill gained six full Scotland international caps after picking up 15 at Under 21 level."

"Rotherham United are set to officially unveil new owners of the club.

Local businessmen Mike Worthington and Darren Millington have agreed terms with current owner and chairman Ken Booth to purchase his majority shareholding, and lawyers are now completing the process of Due Diligence which both parties expect to result, on November 1st, in a successful outcome to what has been a short and amicable period of negotiations.

Worthington and Millington established their company, Earth Mortgages, in Rotherham a little over two years ago, and its growth has been spectacular. Turnover is now in excess of £12 million and the business employs over 240 local people. Managing director Worthington (46) says: "We are a local business whose success is based on the skills and commitment of local people. We believe that responsible companies return that commitment by becoming involved in the things that are important to local communities; that's why Earth Mortgages is now in its second year as shirt sponsor of Rotherham United and has raised over £100,000 in the last 12 months for local and national charities.

When we became aware of the opportunity to buy the club, we saw this as an opportunity to take our community commitment to the next level, and we have already held extremely positive discussions with Rotherham Borough Council about ways in which Millmoor, or even a new stadium, could be developed as a fantastic home for the club as well as a facility to be used and enjoyed by the wider community."

WOOT! :mrpimp: :mrpimp:

Bye bye Booth ya wanker! :D :D
