jimbo, have you gotten AA to work in the demo? I have it turned on and it works in other games, but in the demo it appears to be disabled - which is pretty common among demos these days.

For running the game in 60HZ mode (and thus slowing down the gameplay a bit): - Download Qres, - Put the Qres.exe in the same map as your PES4.exe - Create a .bat with in it: code: qres /r:60 pes4.exe qres /r:75 - Use the .bat as your startup file for PES4 (don't use PES4.exe anymore) Et voila, makes the game a bit slower. BTW: I got this tip from someone else during my PES3 times, dunno anymore who it was, but credits go out to him/her. BTW2: By ending the code with 'qres /r:75' you make sure that the HZ goes back to 75 when you exit PES4 to windows.
I downloaded Qres from their official page.
First of all - there's no qres.exe in the installed folder, just QResCfg.exe.
Second - you can't lock the framerare with it, just change resolution and colors.
Third - it all doesn't matter anyways, because I launched Fraps along the Pes4 demo and the average framerate for me was 15-20 fps which is no wonder for my old and crewy machine.
What does it mean? I just confirms that Konami has fecked up and made a fecking arcade game in which gameplay runs at incredible speed and there's nothing you can change.
IT'S NOT A FRAMERATE PROBLEM, IT'S GAMEPLAY PROBLEM!!!

I dunno, maybe it's another major hardware problem. As we can observe from various posts, it seems that this demo runs very differently on each machine which means that KONAMI has screwed the console port onece again. But have a suspicion that there's lots of people that like this sh!ity super-fast gameplay, which is why they say - THIS GAME ROCKS and such.
I can't believ e that people who actually watch football on TV can appriciate this demo, because the speed is aprox. twice as fast than the real thing.
SH!!!!T!!!
Man, it's so dissapointing. I was praying to KONAMI and sweared to actually buy the game when it'll be out, but now...

maybe the game automatically enables double-speed or something when fps gets below 30fps this could explain the gamespeed problem (15-20fps are too low).
for me its running fine, slightly faster (not much) than pes3..

ps: this game is designed to run constantly at 60fps ! its not a "gameplay problem" ...

I would like to demonstrate how fast the game runs for me, but it's unlikely. I tried to record some gameplay footage via Fraps, but my harware is so crap that all you could've seen would be stutterfest.
And I still think it's gameplay problem. Actually, if we speak about general gameplay, for me it's much more arcade than we7/pes3 was. Lots of crazy running, too fast and stright forward passing, lack of decent build-up play.
I don't want to be flamed about it. It's just the way it runs for me.

i hope this post just doesn't get lost in this huge thread.

I downloaded and installed pes4 properly, and i installed it fine as well.
but when i begin to try and play it, the screen turns black and no menu or anything comes up. Whats happening?

Can someone please help me?

Also, how do you check what kind of videocard you have in your computer?

someone please help...

You are right. I posted that you where wrong but I restarted my computer and now its so f@ckin fast I can't even see in slowmotion how I scored a goal....

I hope this is just the demo, or else i need a fix from Konami....

Yeah!

Finally I can play the game smooth!

My problem was, that slowdowns and stucks occured at every resolution set.

I tried everything: downloading new drivers, changing the graphics-card-settings (AA, VSync, etc.) - but nothing helped!

But the solution was so easy: PES 4 SETTINGS -> Quality: MEDIUM (H)

The game runs smooth on 1280x1024 and looks great IMO!

My system:

AMD Athlon XP 2400+
768 MB DDR
MSI GeForce 4 TI 4200 128 MB DDR
Win XP

I hope that this helps somebody!

yeah, the keepers are really annoying! either they are super human you cant score even 1on1 or they are doing stupid sh*t standing and watching the ball not even moving one bit..
surely this ruins part of the fun.. konami should fix this..

I wouldn't worry that much. At first I felt the same as you. Gameplay = way too fast. Then, after some 10 games, it became less and less of a problem for me. I started too get into the flow of the game and it simply didn't bother me anymore.

But, more importantly, if you can't adapt to the new pace, then simply lower the speed attribute of all the players by, say, 10 points in the full game.

There, problem solved. :p

Well, the first thing I noticed - Much better player animation than PES3.

Second thing I noticed - Too fast for a sim. A bit arcady maybe. Players seem to slide on the pitch rather than run on it.

Imagine this: You wear ice skates, you stand still, your mate pushes you. As you slide ahead, take a few mock steps that are in all practicality, useless.

That is how the players run in PES4. They never seem to break the surface tension of the pitch.

At least in PES3, they took life-like, heavy steps. (This was obvious when they ran on water).

Also, as many others have noticed, pinball. 9 out of 10 times, when two players collide and they have a ball between them, the ball just bounces away. Flubber?

But then again, overall, the entire game play looks and feels a hell lot more smooth and realistic. And of course, even though it'll take some getting used to, the menu is better looking.

All in all, there's a few things that make the game look better, but a few more things that make the game feel worse.

Dare I say, it seems to be heading FIFA's way a bit.

Oh well, most important of all, PES4 is HERE!

And since Konami never advertised some off-the-ball bullcrap, atleast all their tweakings can be considered a genuine attempt at improving PES.

Disclamier: 100% subjective.

This demo is DEFINITELY closer to an arcade style than a true football sim. The speed is crazy fast IMO. As someone states above, it is heading in FIFA's direction somewhat, which I must say really scares me!

There are clearly some major elements of the gameplay which are not working very well at all with PES4, but the thing that gets me is they are so obvious! How could Konami not pick up on the 'pinball' actions of the ball, or the keepers not reacting, or the unnatural fast speed? These are SO obvious, and apparent the moment you start playing. Are they just lazy or what? I don't get it, and I'm a bit concerned that not only is the gameplay heading in FIFA's direction, but the attitude to game-making is also.

Don't get me wrong, this is still a great game, but some worrying signs are creeping in that we really should not be seeing.

yeah, more games I play, I got more feelings like that too
main disadventages making this game pissing off:

- keepers not reacting
- superfast pass and what's worse, with outside of foot (all players are Zidanes)
- pinball time with the ball bouncing from players at small part of pitch, especially in penalty area
- low-ground replays

damn.....:kader: maybe on PS2 it got few 10/10 ratings but on PC never; it's like with pes3, we played it long time, handplay was annoing as hell and we just had to live with it until WE7:I
I doubt they will relase gameplay patch so we have to live with it till WE8:I or PES5 or buy PS2 and play WE8:IJ..damn :kader:

The game for me is playable, but I get a bit of stuttering between framerates when play is in the middle of the pitch. On the flanks, it's all good.

edit: better now in windowed mode :)

It's still pretty fast for a sim, hope they can fix that

Well...

Every second pass is outside foot...

Every player can pass like Zidane...

I've played 4 matches and have had 5 penalties and 3 stretchers...

I really hope the full version is different, but even with these flaws I'll take it over fifa.

Damn though... that outside foot pass gets on my nerves, how did this not get noticed by testers?

the game's good but yeah it does remind of fifa.
konami needs a new engine.

anyway what really pisses me off are the goalies and the somewhat irresponsive passing.
the goalies are bizarre, superhuman saves are way too frequent. PES3 goalies were better imo.

also dunno about you guys, but i can never smash a cross in unless my guy is unmarked. period. i've done lotsa crossing, and if my strikers do get the ball, they send it into the sky.

dunno the game still is hella fun, but i'm not sure that all in all it's really that much better than pes3.

as i said a new engine is necessary, really... this one was good 3 years ago, revolutionary even, but now it's getting old and overworked.
