Gabriel Heinze is on the brink of a £7million move to Real Madrid as Manchester United start to balance the Old Trafford books following Sir Alex Ferguson’s dazzling £50m move last week.

United chief executive David Gill admitted yesterday that players would have to leave in the wake of the arrival of star trio Nani, Anderson and England midfielder Owen Hargreaves.

Cash-conscious United will even make a small profit on Argentina left back Heinze, who was signed for £6.9m from Paris Saint-Germain three years ago.

Heinze was involved in a tug-ofwar between bitter rivals Real and Barcelona, but the 29-year-old has told Argentina team-mates he is about to leave United for the Bernabeu.

Heinze is likely to be followed out of the door by winger Keiron Richardson and striker Alan Smith.

Ferguson remains in the hunt for a potent goalscorer, with doubts lingering over Louis Saha.

Fernando Torres heads the list, despite the £20m price tag imposed by Atletico Madrid.

Gill said: "We’ve looked at it and if something comes along we’ll see what happens. If anything does happen it will be in the striker department.

"We’re not desperate but if any top player came along and Alex and the team felt they would strengthen the side then we would move for them.

"There will be changes because we have a large squad and there should be some people leaving."

Not a good move in my opinion!. I Would much rather see Silvestre go than Heinze. He is a quality player and £7 Million is a bargain for Real Madrid!. I hope Fergie knows what he's doing!.

Man Utd Fail With £25m Eto'o Bid, Focus On Tevez
The Mail on Sunday suggests that the Red Devils failed in a bid to land Samuel Eto'o, and also links them with a move for Carlos Tevez, as the signing of a striker begins to look increasingly likely.

zoom - galleria Manchester United have already spent in excess of 75 million euros on Hargreaves, Nani and Anderson, and seemed unlikely to spend big bucks.

However, CEO David Gill had promised yesterday that more cash could be splashed if the right player, particularly a quality striker, were to become available.

"We've looked at it and if something comes along in another area, which is a striker, we'll see what happens," he had said.

"If anything does happen it will be in the striking department."

Almost on cue come reports that they made an optimistic bid of just under 40 million euros for Barcelona ace Samuel Eto'o, who has been tipped by many to leave the club at the end of the season.

However, they have failed to land the Cameroon international, and unwilling to go higher, are now said to be focusing on West Ham's Carlos Tevez.

"He is the one who lifted their game [for West Ham]," Alex Ferguson has said. "He scored a couple of really good free-kicks and seems to have a lot of enthusiasm."

Manchester United have mooted the idea of a one year loan deal, though Milan are currently favourites as they are willing to offer cash to secure his registration.

Atletico Madrid skipper Fernando Torres is said to be the number three on the list. He signed a new contract with Atleti last summer, lowering his buy-out clause from 90 million euros to a very gettable 40. He has been on Sir Alex Ferguson's wish list for a while.

What looks certain, though, is that a new striker will be signed this summer.

The thing with Tevez is that United want to loan him so they can sort out the whole ownership deal with MSI - Although I read Inter are ready to pay £32M straight out for him now.

As for Gaby, he's said he'll decide on his future after the Copa - besides he's also said that he's happy to stay with United if they want him.

Right now I just want to know whether Anderson will get his work permit. It's likely United will have to appeal.

Queiroz hopes for Fergie's job

Carlos Queiroz admits he hopes to replace Sir Alex Ferguson as Manchester United manager and has warned Chelsea of further suffering next season.
United denied Chelsea a Premiership title hat-trick last term and Queiroz is keen to ensure the champions can build on the success.
With three big signings already added to the Old Trafford squad, United's assistant manager is targeting a clean sweep of trophies.
"We want to go for everything next season," Queiroz told the People. "We always want the maximum.
"I want the league and Champions League. We came close this season, so we have to take advantage of that experience to try again next season.
"Chelsea suffered last season in the league. We have shown that we have a better squad than Chelsea and that is why we won the league.
"And now we have strengthened our side even more with the arrival of Nani and Anderson. If each one gives us half as much as Cristiano Ronaldo is giving us then we will be more than satisfied."
Regarding his own future, Queiroz revealed his wish to succeed Ferguson at Old Trafford when the Scot eventually decides to retire.
The Portuguese added: "With just a few changes to the side we are prepared to be champions again.
"Sir Alex Ferguson still has a great desire, even more so after winning the title. He wants to go one step at a time and has no set date for his goodbye. At the moment it is ruled out.
"I am learning every day at this club. It is not up to me, but it is logical that I would like to be one day the manager of Manchester United."

of course he had, but i have this feeling about him that he wouldn't last long as a main manager for you guys..it might just be me, though.

Yea I feel the same way. He doesn't have that "chief" kind of feel to him as someone like Sir Alex or Wenger does. He just looks like an assistant, and should be one.

I'm hoping Fergie stays on long enough for Keano to get some more experience at Sunderland(hopefully winning a few cups here and there or maybe qualifying for and playing in Europe) with the view of eventually taking over at Old Trafford. He'd be the perfect manager for us because he's played under managerial greats such as Clough and Fergie and he's a winner. He's extremely driven, gets his team to play attractive football and is a staunch disciplinarian.

Theres a Forlan to Liverpool rumour lol. Quieroz is one of the reasons we were able to sign Nani and Anderson. And is prbably the reason Ronaldo is playing so well. I dont care what tacticts Fergie or Queiroz use as long as were getting results. Yes were use to seeing attractive football. But these days football is more a results business and i prefer trophies to pretty football like Arsenal who are 4th place in the league. I dont mind pretty football as long as its effective and we get results. The manager that gets results gets credit because his CV is extensive with a history of success. If combined with good football even better. Like the old saying a goal is a goal.

did you actually read the quotes

"This boy is, as far as his skills are concerned, a super talent.

"He had his training with Sporting Lisbon and technically he is so good, he is almost perfect."

Hardly mocking, he just says his crossing isn't good which is probably true, just some **** website trying to make a story out of nothing.

haha so true, what he was saying was more complimentary that derogatory, and the one negative aspect to his game he brought up made the reporter completely change the angle of the article. The last line sums it up really, comparing him to ronaldo when he first joined the EPL. Look at him now.

Help?

The problem is that we rarely got a result with 4-5-1

Yeah I read the article, I headed my post "chelsea scout reckons Nani won't adapt". The website however takes the "mocking" angle. Still it does come across as Chelsea feeling Nani wasn't worth pursuing. (and therefore that's why United got him)

Doesnt look like we'll get Tevez

Daily Mail

Inter Milan are the £35million favourites to sign West Ham's Argentinian striker Carlos Tevez. The Serie A champions will thwart Manchester United's bid to borrow the forward from hammers on a season-long loan.

And Sir Alex Ferguson's only chance to capture the former Corinthians hotshot is to splash out nearly £40m in transfer fees

It is the second time since the end of the season that United have been rebuffed in their efforts to sign a five-star striker after being told Dimitar Berbatov will not be leaving Tottenham.

The Daily Star reports that Kia Joorabchian, who was behind Tevez’s transfer from Corinthians to West Ham last summer, has already spoken to officials at Inter.

They are prepared to pay up to £30m for Tevez and offer the player a four-year deal worth around £75,000-a-week and United won't be drawn into an auction.

Joorabchian said: "Of the English clubs, United are favourites because Carlos would like to go there - but if they want him, he will cost no less than £40m.

"After what they paid for the two Portuguese players and the price of Shevchenko a year ago, that has to be his value.

"He has proved himself in the Premiership - unlike Shevchenko - and is better and more experienced than the Portuguese boys."

Chelsea scout Piet de Visser has had a dig at Manchester United, claiming new signing Nani may not be good enough for the Premiership.

De Visser has been asked by Blues owner Roman Abramovich to identify young talent to bring to Stamford Bridge, but has cast doubt on whether United's big-money signing can cut it in the English league.

Dutchman De Visser admits the 20-year-old midfielder has huge potential, but reckons his crossing lets him down and claims he holds onto the ball for too long.

De Visser, who recommended John Obi Mikel to Chelsea, told The Sun: "This boy is, as far as his skills are concerned, a super talent.

"He had his training with Sporting Lisbon and technically he is so good, he is almost perfect.

"But I also stress that despite all his talent he may not be right for the Premier League.

"His crosses are sometimes OK, sometimes bad.

"He dribbles too much with the ball because he wants to entertain, not because he wants to be effective.

"Cristiano Ronaldo had the same problem when he first played for United."
This talent scout sounds like a hypocrite to me. I'm sure Nani will adapt and with the help of Ronaldo, the two of them will run circles around every defence in the league.
